So I got into my truck this morning.. it was freezing outside..

turn on the truck and let it warm up a bit.. went to turn the heat on and ... nothing.. called my dealer.. he told me the blower frozen on the demo this morning too.. soo I took it to Mississauaga Benz..

had another head ache when I was dealing with the SA there... what a morning..

What the ****?? It has been between -20 and -35 for a about a week here in Edmonton (finally warming up a bit now). I park outside and I didn't plug in the vehicle for about half of those days and never had a problem starting the vehicle or the heater... That is bizarre.

Do you have a block heater? Or are you the guy from Ontario that said he didn't need one...

Guess with all the snow happening, now is a good time to remind people to clear off the air vents before starting your car. The vents on the GLK are located near the base of the windshield next to the wipers. Be sure to remove all snow and or ice from this area before starting the engine. It seems that snow builds up on the air vents themselves and when the engine gets hot the snow then melts and goes down into the fan housing. There is a drain hole there, but for some reason if a large amount of water gets in there, it tends to refreeze quite quickly in winter weather. This then starves the fan of air essentially burning up the fan motor or freezes the fan completely resulting in a burnt fan motor. Why do I know this? Because it happened to me a month after I bought my R class, but in my defense, the front was an ice cube and there was no way of breaking the ice without breaking the plastic vents so I let it go (air vents are on the hood itself on the R). I've read of this happening on C, E, R, and ML models as well, so its not a model specific thing, but it does happen on the ML and R more due to the location of the air vents.

I found blocks of ice in my wind shield bottom gutter. Its blocking the washer spray nozzles. I just realize gutter is so wide and deep that ice buildup can be really bad. Luckily the vent was not 100% blocked.

Is this something should be engineered out by MB?

can a MB engineer explain their testing...plz..

what happened to all the extreme weather testing that MB engineers did / do? while making this car? or was it all
This is not good if the vents are going to get blocked or clogged during normal use or within Canadian weather conditions.
