Gas pump annoyance

Seems like every time I get gas the pump never stays lock. I would have to stand there and squeeze the pump halfway which takes forever. When it's locked or when I fully squeeze the pump, it would automatically "pop" off and stop after a few seconds. I know it's the pump's safety feature, but I always push the pump fully in. Maybe it's the pump? Shell is my main gas station. Anyone else running into this issue?

I fill up with V-Power at Shell only and I have not encountered any problems.

I noticed that when using pumps without the rubber surrounding that touches the entry point for the vehicle it cuts off also.

This sounds like a sensitive nozzle head to me.. not your car.

I've noticed this as well, although it seems to come and go. The glk is not the first vehicle I have experienced this on however. I wonder if it has anything to do with using premium vs. regular fuel?

Yep, happens often. I turn the nozzle to right (CCW) slightly and it will flow at full rate without clicking off.

Cool, I'll give this a try next time. It's getting too cold to stand out there pumping gas all day. Big storm heading to DC tomorrow....brrrrrr.

It's illegal to pump your own gas in the state I live in. ;-)

But the guys never have problem leaving the nozel running, except on several occasions it stopped pumping after 3 gallons. But on the second try it would stay on till car is full.

True story. Staying in PA for the summer in 2003. Left on a road trip in our 2003 Nissan Murano. First stop, Mt Holly NJ. A day later we got on the road to Kingston, Canada after stopping just outside Mt Holly and topping off the gas tank.
Was politely told to get back in my car.....the professional attendant would pump our gas and there would be no charge.
Uneventful trip up thru NY, finally picking up 81 North. About the time we got to Watertown, the Check Engine light came on.
Oh, Oh. New car.....what now?
Pulled over and got the location of the local Nissan dealer, went there and told him our tale of woe. Nice folks. Put us in front of some local folks. Total time at the dealer....<> 2 hours.
Problem?
The "Professional" at the NJ gas station had forgotten to tighten the gas cap.
GRRRRRRRR.

I have had the pump unlock many times at all different stations

I hate when I go to NJ because the gas attendants don't give a crap about your vehicle and my inlaws have tons of scratches around their gas door. When I was in Oregon they don't let you pump your own gas either and the person pumping scratched my vehicle pretty bad, down to the metal.

I also have this happen but only at certain pumps and stations. I don't think it makes a difference with the grade of gasoline. The rubber seal around the spigot does seem to have an effect.

lol that sux, but doesn't it click when it's tight like on GLK? Maybe older cars didn't have that?

Actually the Murano clicks. Three clicks and you can be sure.
Obvious the "professional gave it a "twist and forget....."
After that, when I was in NJ....I pulled ahead, got out and tightened the cap myself.
Never leave anything to a "professional" that you can do yourself, I guess.

My GLK "sorta" clicks.
Once.
Then it hits the stop.
Guess it works.

Check out the way Ford does it.
No click.
No twist.
No cap!

I am having the same issue. I have to try to hold it a certain possition before I can pump and the mechanism that stops it from pumping when the tank is full stops me from pumping and this is when there is no gas in the tank what so ever. I thought it was my puping style but thinking about it I never had any issues pumping gas into any other cars that I have owned.

Red face

this is a mystery...
it happened to me once at Shell after filling $25.
I know I could have easily filled another $20. But it would not let me. Strange. Turned the vehicle on...and the tank was only a bit over 1/2 full. WTF?
Never occurred this before. Usually, its either Costco / Shell / Chevron.
Seems, I am going to get hiccups on every issue once?

I can't got to Costco with my C Class (not that I go there normally). However, 2 times I tried in a 2-3 gallon left situation, and neither time would it pump into my car. ha. Actually it would, about $1 worth per minute, kept shutting off.

I always go to Chevron, Shell if I can't. NO problems.

I'd suggest trying a different gas station, and it might work better.

I think the problem goes away after awhile. It use to be that I had to hold the pump every time. But now, 10 months later, it doesn't happen anymore. I haven't changed anything, using the same gas station. Maybe they changed the pump nozzle? No idea, but it works as intended now.
