Cornering Light Causing Damage in Light Housing
I was checking out my car in detail tonight and noticed this. Looking carefully just above the H7 cornering bulb (cornering lights are only part of the BiXenon Lighting Package) I noticed a cracking, bubbling and hazing of the reflector material. This is obviously caused by heat. What a drag. Brand new car. I'm sure the bumper cover must be removed to replace this housing. Not sure why the cornering lamp (which is on only when cornering) is doing this. Whats worse, how do I know if replacements aren't going to do the same thing. I really get tired of this ****. Especially being a new Mercedes Benz.
I took a picture, zoomed it in really good and circled the area which is damaged to show you guys what I'm talking about.
Can some other people take a close look at thier lights and see if they are having this problem and just didn't know it. It would be good to know. Remember, you'll only have the cornering light if you have the lighting package.
****UPDATE***
I checked the other housing also (Driver Side). It to is doing the same thing.

Yup... we have it too... not too cool (no pun intended). I won't have time to bring this in for a while.... maybe you can and then fill us in on what your dealer says?

What is your build month MBRedux? I am April.
They ordered new housings today. Said they are in Germany though. They are going to have to pull the bumper cover off to fix this. I hope this isn't going to be one of those fix two or three times a year fixes. If they fix this and it does it agian, I am trading this car the next day.

How bad is yours? Is both sides doing it? My passenger side is the one in the pic whcih is really bad. The drivers side has hazing but no bubbles or cracks yet.

I cannot see this improving with a new replacement... everyone will suffer from this sooner or later, unless they redesign the top metal deflector to cover the top of the bulb at its base. You can see it in your photo... the bulb base has NO heat deflector... it needs a redesign.

I went to the Dealer the other night regarding my lights. They were blown away. Claim they have never seen this before. They were very concerned.
There was a couple of times after I would turn that I noticed the Cornering Lamps staying on even after making turns. They should shut off after about 15 or 20 seconds. But there were times mine would stay on. I think this is what causes the burning. But it shouldn't. The housings should be abnle to take the heat.
I politely explained the situation to the General Manager. I demanded action that night (New Years Eve). I think its unacceptable for a BRAND NEW MERCEDES.
Since it was New Years Eve (supposedly big deal day) they ended up offering me what I paid for my car two months ago. Then they offered me $8K off sticker of a new loaded GLK. So I took it. I thought it was a killer deal. It was about $1500 below invoice. Got the same 2.99% rate and the first two months payments again. Plus I gained the Premium Package.
So I am driving a new GLK again. The build date on this new one is September 09. I haven't noticed the lights staying on in this one.
Hopefuly MBredux is wrong and the housing have been updated.
I will keep everyone updated.

cyberGLK,
wait did you to go to get lights replaced and replaced whole car? sick... did the new GLK have any miles
lol
Noticed today my corner light stayed on as well. I turned lights off and back on and the corner light was off. Not sure wtf, but these electric things are expected of MB or pretty much any German car, no biggie to me.

on second thought, this headlight thing is causing some members a lot of grief.
first it was moisture/condensation, and now this 'warped plastic' inside the housing. (I am still having moisture today due to rain and warm humidity)
would all members please advise of your build date and any date codes on the light assembly. Hopefully, this will correct the issue somewhere?

In any event, glad to hear your dealer was able to make things right for you... it's gotta feel awesome driving a brand new vehicle again! Hopefully this one works out better than the last one.
Pirellis or Dunlops on the new one??

ya something's weird .....someone had to take a hit here... either you or the dealer... if the car was registered, with mileage, the only way the dealer would do this is if you either made them so crazy they did whatever you wanted or something was indeed very wrong with your car besides headlight reflectors... (by the way, that front bumper cover comes off in less than 30 min. and snaps back on just as simply.)
I would no way make such a ruckes unless the engine or tranny or something real bad had happened, but a defective headlight assembly?
To each their own.

I just checked mine and they are fine. Most of our driving of this vehicle is during the day but there are many straight hours of night time driving. I can't imagine what the problem is here.

Okay... spoke to my MB rep about my headlites... both will be replaced... no problem but the deal is this, the bulb type was recently upgraded. (I don't see how this will make any difference) but as soon as I find out more I will post.
I still say it's the metal heat defector not covering the base.

I think it's just service rep myself.... but if there's something to it, I'll let you all know.
By the way... has anyone else noticed that if you are caught in a traffic jam intersection, or at a long traffic light to make a turn at night and your wheel is ever so turned, the side corner light stays on indefinately until you either make the turn and straighten out, or center the wheel if you're waiting in traffic? This is where these bulbs must fry the mirror refector housing.
