You can turn the dimmer switch down so that all of those pesky warm lighted places aren't lighted at all.

Speaking of which...somebody on this forum asked if the air vent control wheels were lighted. They are indeed lighted on the 2012 GLK.

^^Yeah, that's a wonderful solution to an aesthetics problem for a Benz.

It's the perfect solution for a non-problem.

To each their own, I suppose, but I bet it gets addressed in the 2013 makeover.

Cool

Personally, I find the central 3 guage cluster overly bright. Turning them down to a comfortable level leaves all of the dash & door items nearly invisible. I am at the tweaking stage now with the dimmer control. Which is neatly hidden on the dash. It took me awhile to locate it with the help of the manual. Turning the knob up just enough to illuminate all the dash & door items without making the speedo, etc. too bright.

And now...for something that is COMPELTELY UNACCEPTABLE?

Hiding the wiper cotrols behind the steering wheel. What were they thinking?

I agree with you 100%, and that's the basis of my gripe. My '04 c230 that I traded had the warm yellow-ish lighting for the gauges and dash and door items. Before that I had a BMW 318i that had their signature red/orange lighting throughout. I just wish it was consistent. What you noted about the adjustability (or lack thereof) is why I think it looks cobbled together from spare parts rather than something that was designed as a cohesive unit.

The mismatched color temperature doesn't bother me. The important stuff is attention getting while the rest is subdued. It's ok to my eyes.
The wiper stalk placement is not worthy of a Yugo.

During the day with sunglasses on I can't read the clock or outside temp in the speedo cluster. Also turning the clock in the center screen off when the radio is off is silly.

Polarized sunglasses? I will check this the next time I drive with sunglasses. There is a clock? Grinning. Haven't found it.

Well I guess its personal opinion but I like mine the way it is. I don't want to be distracted out the corner of my eye by a bright light from one of the door switches. On the other hand I do want to see my instrument panel. But while we are talking about lighting and dash lights what I think is much better is the Heads Up Display in my Corvette Grand Sport. Never have to take my eyes off the road to even notice any difference in lighting color or instrument information.

The Homelink discussion is interesting. Since 1989 and multiple vehicles and multiple garages, I have never ever closed my garage doors with anything other than the opener switch by the door. Why? I always check the location of the vehicle. Or I may need to get stuff out of the back.
If it were a really big deal, use the remote that came with opener. They work all the time. Which makes the security worries moot. How many millions of cars sit in front of garages with openers inside the car?

Update:
After 8+ years I got in the Volvo wagon, no key in the switch, and pressed the Homelink button. The garage door opened. Who knew? That doesn't mean anything to me. I will still use the open/close switch attached to the wall.
And..............our GLK is uber smooth and uber silent from 70 to 95 and back to 70. Love it!

Merry Christmas!
