Soon to be owner!

Hi Everyone,

Just want to quickly introduce myself as I signed the papers to a GLK yesturday. It's a gift for my Mother (its a 3 year lease). The car is Palladium Silver with beige interior. Options includs premium package, xenons, sunroof, and HK7. Apparently it comes with 20' wheels even though I personally think the 19's might be better for comfort (all the test drives has been on the 19's).

Special thanks to Baby G for taking the time to explain the purchasing process. This is the first time I've delt with leasing as all our previous vehicles has been purchases. I ended up buying from Oakville. I didn't get as much discount as many of you (a little less than 2K off list) but I like the sales attitude, felt it was fair, and the entire process only took 30 minutes. Car won't be ready for pickup until the end of Feb though. I had test driven the car at the Mississauga dealership but the sales was not interested to talk about any discounts and made me feel like i couldn't afford the car if i wanted a discount.

In the end, I am happy with the #'s but there are some weird fee for "globali" for $289 and "other dealer options" of $434.70. Does anyone know what these are? I guess as long as my mom is happy its all good. I currently drive an Acura CSX (great car btw) that my mother purchased for me while i was in university. I know I was spoiled but now that I secured a decent job in Toronto and no longer need to drive, we are giving the CSX to my brother who is still in uni and I wanted my mom to have something she always wanted but was never willing to spend on herself (plus i get to drive it on the weekends). Anyways. I look forward to be a contributing member of the forums Happy New Year and safe motoring everyone!

Congrats and welcome. Post some pics once you get it. Silver and beige is a weird combo, I'm curious to see how that looks like. I was looking in that combo but my sales guy was like wft. Can't really say enjoy your GLK, but it's nice of you get your mom a car.

Phil, congrads for you new car purchase and welcome to the forum. The Globali is an anti-theft insurance the deal put on top of your own insurance. You should see a green circle on the bottom of the driver and passenger window. There are also other etched numbers on different areas of the car. I personally didn't think its necessary and asked the dealer (Oakville) to take if out, but they told me it was NOT possible. I didn't bother to argue with them. Don't know what your $434 is for, does it have a description?

You will enjoy your car, just be patient while you wait.....

Hi Yualfred,

Thanks for the warm welcome, It only says "other dealer options" beside the $434.70 with no other description. There's an admin fee of $298 so i have no idea what "other dealer options" is... I will e-mail my sales person and let you guys know too.

I would have thought the silver and beige would look weird too but they had one in the showroom and I liked it. I remember looking at the X3 and asking about space grey and beige and the sales told me that would be ugly but they use that combo in the brochures. lol. oh well, Will post pics later

Sounds like ADP to me.

ADP stands for Additional Dealer Profit. Sometimes listed as such on popular cars in the lower 48.

honestly, when i signed the paper, I was thinking my delivery's only a month away, no big deal, but EVERYDAY has been an agonizing wait!!, I check this forum everyday just to get my GLK fix. Anyhow. in reply to my previous post about "other dealer options". It's new Ontario thing. Mainly taxes that goes to Stewardship Ontario for end of life disposal or certain automotive parts. It just started recently so many of you didn't have it on your purchases... in short, it's just ANOTHER tax, lol.

Hello Folks, Just a little update. The car has around 3000km's right now and it's been awsome cept a couple of minor issues:

1) Power tails gate has on occasion failed to open or close. Only like 3 times so far and its always been during a rain storm when i really needed it, lol. Not possibly to duplicate so I'll let it slide for now

2) Engine started making loud knocking noise from driver side. It's superloud when you first start the car and then you can hear it "tap tap tap" are you speed up. It sounds horrible and i'm trying to get an appointment set up this week cause i've never had a car sound this terrible. Ppl look at my car when i'm stopped from the noise so its pretty embarrasing. Will update you folks.

other thoughts:
- kind of wish i had 19's instead because i find myself dodging potholes to avoid damage
- HK system is average. it's good, but it cost $1k extra so it should be good. I actually like the ELS system on Acura's more but i admit, i'm not an expert so...
- i wish there was a bit more room, I think they could of hollowed out the dash a bit more for the front passenger leg room area. oh well.

the good stuff:
- I love how safe i feel in this car. the door's like 2x as thick as the Japanese makes
- ownership experience has been good, sales dropped off some gifts the other day and will pick up the car whenever it needs service
- enjoy the overall quality of the car (minus no door lights and flimsy sun visors

And the best part, the car was originally a gift from me to my mom but she wants something bigger, got a 2010 MDX. I gave my CSX to my younger brother so now the GLK sits at home wasted until weekends, lol (i take the train to work everyday).

Congratulation Phil.

I am also about to put an order for a Paladium Gray GLK. Did you ever considered a gray interior? I did not think that beige would look as nice as it does. Congratulation

Hi Viggie, I personally would prefer the gray interior like the one we have in canada with the C class. Unfortunately, that option is not available on the non-leather GLK here. If i was getting a C I would definately opt for the gray with dark wood trim. Good luck with your purchase. You'll love the car

Hello folks, the car has been at the dealer for the entire day and they just called and said they need to keep it overnight and check it when the engine is cold... not sure what that means and the guy said its nothing serious (but i've never had a car that had to be in a shop for more than a day on something not serious). Anyhow, keep you guys updated tmr

They are checking to make sure the oil doesn't all bleed down into the crankcase over night. More than likely all will be well, but they need to dot the i's and cross the Ts. Good shop.

Thanks redrover. that's very comforting to hear. The MB dealer I got the car from is independently owned and felt more personal than the corp one i visited originally. I know they'll fix it right and hopefully wash the car because there was bird poop on it when they came to pick it up, lol

A faulty lifter?.... already? Very odd. For the hell of it, ask them for the old part in a zip-lock bag.

Hi everyone, Got the car back yesturday after a full week in the shop. The service order says " Removed Camshaft covers and found right bank had 4 lifters that had play and were not touching camshaft base circle when rotated. Replaced all left bank valve clearance elements and cam followers" Glad to have the car back and its running normally now. Had an E class during the ordeal so its not too bad. hopefully this is the last time I have to go in for unexpected services. Cheers!

I must have a car built on a Friday or something because this morning the "check coolent" msg came on when i started the car. Was heading to church so i just drove it. It wasn't even hot today (15 degrees C). Anyhow, at noon driving home i can see the temp needle between 80 and 120 and it fluctuates with my acceleration. I can also hear the engine fan going nuts up front. honestly, this is crazy and dissapointing. I'm going to wait for it to cool down and check the levels but there is no way a 4 month old car should have its owner check and top up coolent. looks like tme morning's going to be a messed up start to the work week for me AGAIN.

hi guys, I need some help here. I'm going to book an appointment with the dealer tmr but wanted to make sure i know the facts.

Is it normal for the operating temp to be a hair under the 100 degree line? I remember it use to run a tad over 80 but today it's definately in the high 90 range. The outside temp is around 20 C

Also, after 15 minutes of driving the aux fan kicks in and is very loud. even after shutting the car down, it takes like 10 seconds for it to "wind down". Is this normal?

Sorry guys, i'm just so frustrated with this thing right now. with work/family, the last thing i need to do is take trips to the dealer on a new car.

update:

I have an appointment booked at the dealer I purchased the car from but also e-mailed a local corporate owned dealer because its closer to home as my own dealer told me they have no time to see me till next week. The corp service advisor called and said it is normal for the GLK (i'm guessing the C350) to run at a high temp and as long as i don't get to the red mark or get anymore errors, it should be okay to drive. I've never owned a car that had a fluctuating temp needle nor an aux fan that sounds like a fighter jet but I guess i'm just new to the MB experience...
