Cracked windshield grrrrr
talk about luck and talk about driving in Houston. Barely 4 months old (5k miles already), heard a loud thud while driving, thought my tires exploded (but then again, I was still able to drive), when I got home I noticed a big crack on the upper side of my windshield (where the mirror/compass sits).
luckily got the windshield protection from permaplate (which i got when I bought the car...which some folks hate and some like) they'll change the whole set-up. I requested for an OEM windshield . the call person said I can get the OEM but it would take a while. I can wait for as long as the windshield wouldnt break on me while driving. Anyway, this is my 3rd accident with the windshield... first two were just chips... 3rd one wasnt that forgiving. Really crossing my fingers for that OEM.
question is...would i get the oem windshield, hopefully the people who would install the glass have experience changing my glk. Here's to a lot of hoping

Quick Question!
Does the OEM or replacement windshields have a sun strip or is it purely clear glass? Mine is clear and I'm researching what to put on.

i had to wait a little over a month before they installed the new one. because they had to order it from mercedes and wait while it shipped.
the windshield repair guys will get the inspection and registration stickers off and put them on the new windshield, with no problem. i was worried also, but they did it.. i can't even tell they were removed and re-applied.
they also had the little mercedes sticker in the lower right corner. he removed it but it didn't go back on nicely. he had a new one in his van......

Cracked the windshield 2 weeks into ownership, that was a year ago. There were no after market windshields. Had 2 wait about 2 weeks for SafeLite to get it from MB. MB wanted $900 for an insurance policy (didn't take it). I've spent $500 out of pocket (my deductible) so far. I'm ahead of the game but I don't want to speak to soon.

i'm finding out that the windshield is like wet toilet paper, when it comes to flying rocks. i probably have 5 little chips across the windshield. none large enough to have filled, they are very tiny divots...but still unbelieveable!!

Replaced the first week I had it. Only took a few days to get the part and the guy who did it said it was very easy. Did it right in my garage took him about 20 min. No problem at all (with full glass insurance). No difference in look even the MB sticker is in the same spot.

Just got my first cracked windsheild
Driving on I95 a rock flew up and cracked my windsheild. I called my insurance company and Safelite is coming
Wednesday or Thursday to replace it. I requested OEM and it was approved. I think I'll stay on the side roads for a while.

Just got new Mercedes windsheild minus the decal in the lower right. Dealer wants $11 for it. It should be free advertising for them. I can do without it....

OTOH once it is hit, the GLK windshield is much more vertical than the norm (58 degree for GLK vs 50 degree for ML 350)so what would just glance off some windshields hits our windshields head on......
Might look into one of those ugly (IMO) "bug deflectors" for the front hood if you do a lot of freeway driving........
