Newbie with some illuminated sills info

Im so excited im picking up my GLK this week black on black with p1 nav back up cam da works...

Reading all your threads has been soooo helpful you guys have a lot of good thorough info. I have been looking for accessories especially illuminated door sills and I found a website and spoke with the buisness owner Jerry and I after reading all your guys info I knew exactly what to ask and he includes everything the plates, rear and front sills with the harness, he buys the original sills from mercedes and then sends them to a factory to be made at a much lower cost here is the link and the info he gave me..
this is a copy of our e-mail convo
It will take at least 60 days to get the sill covers
$199 for set of 4 will be the price.
Jerry

(me) is that all thats needed for them to light the mercedes?? or do i need to purchase any other plates??

That's all you need, four covers with provided harness.
Jerry

(me) I thought I read somewhere that illuminating plates are also needed and that the part number for the blue plates is 66890016

All is well...
set includes 2 stainless steel sill cover, 2 blue EL panels, and 2 inverters
They will look like the sills here:

Jerry

If you guys have anyother suggestions or tips please feel free to let me know. I have been wanting to get the top LED lights like the brabus GLK model, but the rep told me today that Brabus is not making a kit for that they just did a few cars like that, does anyone have info on where I can get body work done like that in fl, if you have a mechanic or someone that does work like that please let me know.

just got my original equipment manufacturer Door Sills installed.
WOW...they are really cool.

This ain't much of a DIY. The hardest part is getting the SAM unit out and then installing a customized "pin" into the modulex. Also, taking out the entire carpet assembly for both front sides.

In all it took my body shop and a MB mechanic about 3+ hrs to get this installed.

Pixs to be posted soon...

I only got the front done for now. I am not sure if the rear is justifiable at the moment due to the smaller opening and limited track space.
I purchased thru a dealer in the US. They are a little more $ in Canada as always...
Overall, these look really sweet. I am glad it says "Mercedes Benz" .

$600 is pricey for this, but they look so cool. If it's half the price, I would surely do it.

Cool

so much excitement, and with nice weather today, I was able to take some pixs of the install. Here it is:

Yes, the blue plastic is still on it. I want to protect the thin aluminum with clear plastic and will need to wait a bit for this to come in :0

Feedback? (thanks Kamen, Baby G)

thanks jrsangel7800.

yeah...so far that is the best of the 2K in accessories spent.

It was a lot of work, and just make sure you have the following components for your $200 unit:

illuminated door sills control module
invertors (x2)
sill covers (x2)
control module cable harness
front SAM pin
a rivet
double-sided tape
wire ties
& the illuminated sills (x2), of course

The electronics seems very *fragile*. At least for me it did. Never seen this much electronics in all my previous non German/Benz brand.

Once you've got all that carpet opened, it seems like one is doing brain surgery. When you do this... you'll know what I am saying.

I am glad that I had 2 professionals doing this. 5 different MB dealers wanted 5 different $$$. One dealer had not done one, so I had to pay extra $$$ for them to learn on my new baby. I have no problem of paying justified, reasonable labour. So, i asked my body shop if they were comfortable of doing the install. The truth is that my body shop personnel was only comfortable with the product only...no electronics. This is where I had relied on a MB tech to assist at the shop who also drives an older MB himself. Overall it seemed like a 1/3 day job between the 2.

The hardest part was going routing the wire harness thru the front SAM and removing the assembly from a very tight spot. You need a very low profile torx bit and small hands...

Good Luck....
