Command Center display defect?
Any GLK'rs found that their Command Center LCD stopped displaying? Sound was fine, but screen was just off.
It happened on Sunday for about 40 minutes. No rough driving, no bumpy roads. Temp was reasonable. I tried to get it working. I gave up, called MB dealer and left a message.
2hrs later, got in my car and it was working again. Temp hadnt changed that much. the whole day was at coldest -3c. Car has been in -22c without any such issue.
MB, still hasnt called me back. Hmmm, typical. I will get MB to look at it, but if anyone has any related thoughts I'd appreciate hearing them.
(PS- Sorry if anyone already posted a similar thread - if so, I missed it).

A few months ago, many here reported a batch of defective LCD screens.... most had them replaced under warranty but they soon developed severe rattles inside the dash.

Same thing happened again later, no rhyme or reason to it from what we could tell, not really super hot or cold days.

Digging up this thread from a year ago
Drove to ski today, on the way there screen shut off. Everything else worked including navi directions. I pushed the on/off button once to turn system off and then again to turn it back on. The screen came back on. On my way back screen shut off again. This time I wasn't able to turn it back on. I tried restarting the car, shutting the Common off and turning it back on, didn't work.
This hasn't happened once for past 2 years until today.
Dropped the car off today, we'll see what they do.

Am I understanding correctly that the audio continued to work but the screen went blank? Did you try voice commands to change from Nav to radio or anything else like that?
Please let us know what happens.

On a side note I'm enjoying C-class rental. It has better ride and feels more fun. Taking trip to CT tomorrow, couple hundred miles on rental car is not bad deal.

Yea voice guidance continued working, i could switch to radio and change radio stations. Didn't try changing anything by voice. LCD didn't work and the idrive thingy didn't either as I could not scroll through my songs on SD card.

That really sucks... sorry to hear it!
It's either the LCD power supply or the inverter failed. It could also be the FL-backlight or its starter. I would appreciate if you could specifically ask the tech what component is responsible. They'll probably switch out the whole unit, but I'm curious as to what is actually failing.
They'll know, they must have done dozens and dozens!
Thanks!

It wasn't cold at all where I'm was and it stopped working in warm car. I think the coldest this car has seen is 10-15F once or twice. Winters in NYC area aren't that cold (20s-30s mostly).

The ppl in the service department who do the paperwork are not mechanics so they have no clue..."Thing was defected so they put a new one in and are sending this one to Mercedes"
On the bill it says they tried various resets and nothing worked to bring the screen back, I'll scan it tomorrow.

Hope that you didn't have to much to reprogram. Do you have an active Sirius subscription? If so what did you have to do to reactivate it?

Well... I know that those at the front desk are clueless ... but I was hoping you would have asked the "repair technician" like I had requested. You know, you are allowed to ask to speak with them. Any customer, by law, can request to speak with the actual repair/man/woman that worked on their vehicle.
Oh well, next time.

This happened to my GLK about a year ago but it never came back on. The dealer ended up replacing the entire screen. NO rattles as reported by others and its been the only repair that's been necessary.

This starting happening to me the last couple week on my 2012 GLK350.
Music stays on and screen shuts off. I usually just turn system off then on and it stays on or shuts off again and I repeat.
Guess I have to take it in while its still under warranty.

This is a problem with the boot sector of the display. On some occasions it will not boot correctly and the display is blank. Since the display is independent from the audio, navigation Sirius etc. all of those system work. Of course it is hard to use some of them without the display. You will note that the display in the instrument cluster still shows the correct information as to street or radio channel etc..
If you just turn off the vehicle and restart it will not clear the display because the display takes about 10 minutes to lose enough power to require a reboot. If you turn off the vehicle for 10 minutes, and then restart the display will probably reboot correctly. This mis-boot has nothing to do with temperature or other climate conditions as I have it occur about twice a year in both summer and winter. I have not found a method to reboot the screen except for allowing the screen to de-power long enough to fully discharge the internal capacitors thus requiring a re-boot.
Replacing the screen with a new one may cure the problem but the new Prom software built into the screen may be just as bad.
