Pricing and servicing costs

hi everyone..

am looking to replace my aging 2005 subaru wrx sti to the glk 350..

my question is.. what kind of pricing will i be looking at.. i reside in toronto, ontario, canada..

any particular dealership which i should be buying from.. based on friendly knowledgeable staff.. service.. pricing.. etc..

also.. i am looking at the 2010 glk 350 with premium package.. sunroof and keyless go..

would appreciate everyone's input regarding a bottomline price.. and what about maintenance.. how are the costs.. are they as expensive as they are touted to be..

thank you to all.. cheers..

ps* looking forward to owning one soon..

From what I hear, you can get between 1000 and 2000 off MSRP. I did $3000 of a fully loaded GLK that was on the lot for about 3 months.

42900 Base MSRP
+ 2000 Premium Package
+ 1500 Sunroof
+ 975 Keyless Go
+2410 Freight PDI and doc's

=$49785 + Tax - whatever discount you get. ( if you get any metallic color, it will cost you 895 more!)

We only have 1500 km on it, so I don't know about service costs, but there is a thread about that.
The gas mileage isn't the best around town, and the tank is small, but other than that, there is nothing we don't like about it.
It is a blast to drive, rides great and very quiet. Keyless go is great!

Last tank I went 120 km on 18.5L. (75 miles on 4 IMP GAL, or 4.9 US GAL)
15.4 L/100 km, 18.75 IMP MPG or 15.3 US MPG

I have been filling it up when it is down to 3/4 still left, and it's always been around 120 km on around 18L.

As they say if you ask how much it costs you prolly can't afford it...only kidding.

in regards to maintenance, it's once a year service, but it ranges from 300 to 500 and prolly higher every 4 years or so, when big ticket items have to be replaced. Also 3k discount SD90 is talking about is on fully loaded GLK, which I think is the way to buy it. IMO bi-xenon, sunroof, Logic 7, navi with larger screen and rearview camera are a must.

Also that's quite a jump for you from sti to GLK. Have you driven GLK yet? On the other hand, I was test driving bimmers and infinitis and ended buying GLK, go figure.

GLK350-premium pks,Bi-zenons,NAVI,OEM Hitch, Stepboards etc..
Im from Ottawa.

I got $2000 discounted price from total 10 months ago.

I didn't pay any hidden fees.
It means (MSRP + options +1900(Freight cost) - $2000) + TAX

Everything is fine so far....

Fuel consumed : 7km/L (in Ottawa city)
9~10km/L (highway)

You must choose below options. if not, you will regret.
1. Bi Xenon lights
2. Panorama roof
3. Keyless-go

** I have OEM navi and likt it but my wife said she doesn't mind even if there's no navi opt.

thanks sd..
thanks nycglk
thanks dreamka..

great input from you guys.. much appreciated..

yes.. it will be a jump from my sti to the glk.. haven't drove the glk yet.. been told it's real smooth.. especially with the 7-speed tiptronic system..

anyhow.. question.. is it worthwhile to get the command unit and xenon lights.. without the xenon lights.. do i get cornering lights with the regular halogen ones..

right now.. the options which i'm leaning towards are:

sunroof
premium
keyless go

thanks again everyone.. looking forward to your replies..

cheers

I'd get the Command and Headlights for sure! You only get the cornering lights with the upgrade I think.

2011 glk 350
thanks sd..

i see.. let me get this straight.. what exactly does the command unit handles.. is it part of the nav package.. or is it separate..

sorry for all the questions.. totally in the dark here.. i should really drop by a mb dealership and have all my questions answered.. although i prefer to know these beforehand.. as you know how it is with dealerships.. they tend to be more bias as they are trying to sell you all these options..

thanks again my friends who answered.. it's a blessing to have so many knowlegeable folks helping out..

cheers

The command unit is the navigation. It gives you voice command for the radio, iPod and navigation functions, it is really cool. (By the way, I'd get the Media interface ($375) if you have an iPod as well, I just leave the iPod connected all the time, and you never have to worry about charging it or even seeing it!) If you are getting Navigation ($1800) you might as well spend $450 and get the back-up camera too! It is a slippery slope, but all these options are well worth it. I have the Upgraded HK sound system, now, I have never heard the standard system, but I don't think it is worth $1000. The rear DVD's are cool for the kids, but if you don't have kids, save the $2400. If you have lots of radio stations in your area and don't travel much, you may not need the Sirius Sat Radio, I think they want $375 for it. As far as the leather goes, they say the Artico wears better than real leather, and looks as good, but it doesn't have that leather smell! (but it will save you $2400)
I'm sure what ever you get you will love it! My wife loves the power tailgate, that comes with the Premium package, as well as the parktronic sensors on the front and back, they make it hard to back into anything!

We just took a trip to Banff, I filled up before we left and when we got back.
315 km on 34L. (197 miles on 7.49 IMP GAL or 8.99 US GAL)
-26.3 IMP MPG
-21.9 US MPG
-10.8L/100 km.
We were going between 120-140 km per hour.
It was the first small road trip we have taken, it may get a bit better once the engine is broken in.

wow.. sure adds up those options.. now instead of a 40K vehicle.. it ends up being $60k..

better be worth it now.. haha..

makes it easy that i don't owe an ipod.. however.. who knows i may buy one should it become inexpensive..

don't think i need the nav package as my iphone has the gps on it..

so i guess what i need really is

premium.. sunroof.. xenon lights and command centre

thanks..

The command for $1800 is the navigation system. Without nav, you get a
smaller screen and no voice command.
The price does add up quickly, but the GLK is very fun to drive and I love the sound the door makes when you close it! When you go to the dealership, make sure the windows are all up and try it, you'll see what I mean!

thank you for correcting about the command unit which includes nav..

you should drive the glk instead of the hummer.. since it's a fun car to drive.. haha..

all kidding aside.. how does the glk stands up besides the q5 or ex35.. does it blow the them away..

oh.. can i fill up with mid grade instead of premium gasoline..

thanks again sd..

I've only put premium in it so far, I wouldn't risk it for the 5 cents per liter it will save you.
GLK to the EX35, honestly I liked the interior of the EX more, but I don't like the outside, and the infinity dealership had 40 EX35's on his lot! I think that might be an issue 3-5 years down the road when I may be looking at selling!
GLK to the Q5, I liked the feel and styling of the GLK better. Plus the Audi dealership is 40 minutes away and the Mercedes dealership is only 10!
The GLK is fun the drive, but I like not having to worry about ruts and potholes in the H2, and it has everything the GLK has for options (other than cornering headlights) I work in a rail yard, and the crossings and roads are not in the best shape! I don't think the GLK will ever see my work! I don't want to know how much a 20" Rim would cost to replace!

Infi EX350 is not in the same class with Q5, GLK350 and X3 (X3 will be discontinued soon)

If you want Q5 then you should get the premium grade with LED daylights, not base entry model.

I can't say which one is better but it was not my cup of tea.

Frankly, I was waiting new X3 but X3 will be come out in next year and X1 is too small and small engine even below model position than GLK 350.

I'd like to keep the GLK for 10 years, I've just never had a vehicle longer than 3. I would like to change that, that is one reason we bought a Mercedes, and a reason we got the GLK loaded, there will be less that you will want in a new vehicle if yours already has everything you can get!

We bought it from Lonestar in Calgary.

great insight sd and dreamka..

no need to consider ex35 and q5 now.. just keep my heads high with the glk..

yes.. must be nice to change vehicles every 3 years.. now if only my wallet allows it haha..

you're correct indeed regarding extra options.. that way.. no incentive to have to switch vehicles.. besides.. i am told benz has a reputation to uphold too..

you guys are the best... cheers

Mid-grade is fine... To your surprise, it's okay to put in regular (a grade lower than mid-grade)! That's what a knock sensor is for, give the ECU a few days to learn to live with 87... Our engine compression is only 10.8, not as high as 2.5L or 3.0L M272 engine! But make sure you go to top-tier gas stations!

except that article is written by people who don't know better and real impact is open to debate also long term effect are unknown. What's the point of buying well engineered car and putting gas that is not supposed to go in there?

It's like buying bose system to listen to AM radio.

Don't tell me you are putting regular gas into STI?

ohhh misunderstood and forgot you are also from canada so you might have different grading. Where I live I see regular/premium/better premium, nothing between regular and premium.
