Installed hitch

Sup guys i installed an aftermarket hitch to my GLK 350 2WD from TheHitchStore.com. If anyone would like to do it its not that expensive, but will take you a long time to do. The instructions said that it would take 120min for a novice. It actually took me 4 hours haha. Here are some pics

I guess if you really need to tow something...but then why not get factory one in first place?

Fits like a glove , n no electrics. I only bought the hitch cause i was tired of putting my mountain bike in the back with the seats folded down. I just ordered my bike rack, once i get it i will take some pics for those bikers out there.

I was too excited i forgot about it. Besides they probably would of charged me like 1000 dollars just to do it haha. Nothing better than DIY and not getting over charged for something simple

Did you have to take the bumper cover off or just drop the exhaust?

Thats better than on my C. When I bought my GLK, we couldn't find one with a hitch already on it so in order to keep going on bike trips ( already had the hitch rack) I got one for the C from the Hitch Store. Looks good maybe I'll get that one because the family doesn't like piling in my old car....

I am going to get new bikes (2 of them) and am thinking about getting a hitch+bike rack. If you can post some pics with the bikes on it would be very helpful.

I'd agree with NYCGLK that I'd get the factory one. I heard that the factory one comes with electronics that prevents the hatch from opening/closing if the bike rack is up. Can someone confirm?

The factory hitch will likely run you $2-3K to have installed... at least that is what the MB stealerships here quoted. Completely cost prohibitive...

it's $540 dollar factory option, just has to be added when you order or you have to find GLK with it.

I'm talking about having one installed after the fact... most GLKs on the lots don't have the hitch.

Here you go some pics of my bike+rack+hitch. I purchased the Yakima Double Down for 4 bikes. It is a great bike rack, it folds out of the way so your hatch wont hit when you open it. I got a good deal on the rack online at www.Rackattack.com
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask, I am glad i had the courage to do everything myself and so far so good saved $$$$$

yea I know, was just pointing out that it is available as an option if you order your car. I actually bought mine of the lot and didn't want the hitch (don't like the look), but figured might come in handy as I plan to keep the car.

I totally understand why dealerships charge 2 grand for it if they make it identical to the stock option.

I have a factory installed trailer hitch. I put my bike rack on and opened the trunk with the remote. It did open - and I was surprised how much force it took to stop it - I had my hand between the door and the bike rack.

yea it's weird, I think it's not normal. I've played around with the hitch and know exactly what you are talking about. However, other times it would stop opening with not much effort.

No damage done - my hand was between the two...

But I was surprised how much force it took to stop it from opening, as I had to push the door down to get it to stop.

Especially when it's closing and it takes very little pressure to stop it from closing.

Did you get a Curt hitch, or a Valley? I want a hitch with 2" receiver because I already have a bike rack for it.

The Hitch Store doesn't list any hitches for the GLK 350 anymore.

tow bar parts ?

"Sorry to post it hear, but nobody replied to my own thread.
Maybe someone can help me"
----------------------------------------------------------------
I need some parts for my factory installed Class II tow bar, but I’m confused and would appreciate help/advice.
I ordered the car (US-model), but delivery is end of July, therefore I can’t take measurements.
I want to have the “missing” parts available before I get my car, so I can use it right away.
I want to use the tow bar for a bike carrier, which is mounted on top of the hitch ball.

Am I correct that the Receiver tube size is 1 1/4 " ?

Now the confusion starts. I need a Class 2 ball mount and the hitch ball.

Looking at the different versions, I’m not sure which one I need.
For example, there are Ball Mounts with different Length (7 1/4”, 7 13/16", 9 ¾”, etc.) and Drop (1/4”, 1”, 3 ¼”, etc.).
What do I need?

What would be the correct hitch Ball? 1 7/8” or 2” ? I know it has to be for 3500 lbs.

Did I miss a part?

Thanks for your help
