why wouldn't it? It's normal if you are on the hill.

However, there is brake assist that should keep car from rolling for a couple seconds to let you push gas pedal.

if you are thinking that brake assist is to
not let your car roll, you're right almost...
it is not to prevent a complete roll back..

I was downtown Seattle and had to stop on some lights on pretty steep hills and the brake assist always held the car in place for a few seconds for me to get going; never experienced the rollback myself.

Have your transmission check before you get an accident. This is dangerous.

Check the ML Operator's manual before advice on "transmission check". As posters already have noted, is the Brake Assist System (BAS) supporting the "Hill-start Assist System". From the chapter in the manual:

"On uphill grades, the hill-start assist system maintains the pressure in the brake system for approximately 1 second after you have released the brake pedal. Therefore, you can start off smoothly without the vehicle moving immediately after releasing the brake pedal.".

and:

"! Warning!
The hill-start assist system is not designed to function as a parking brake. It does not prevent the vehicle from moving when parked on an incline.

Always engage the parking brake in addition to shifting the automatic transmission into park position P.".

(The bold parts by me).

The OP is driving a ML, a heavy SUV, which strenghtens the physics of a car on a hill.

Glk 350 with some 22s
Even when i pull my 2 jet skis out of the water my car does not roll back at all. It is very reliable so i think there might be something wrong.
