Rotor Problem

I called the dealership today to make an appointment to have them look at the car. When the rotors heat up and you step on the brakes you get a vibration , you can feel thru the steering wheel, brake pedal and seat. I asked if this would be covered under warranty. He said probably not. I told him I only had 20 K on the car. He said they are probably worn out. Has anyone had this problem. What were your results. I am bringing the car in on Tuesday. Any advice?

BTW it seems that whenever I call MB they always have an excuse/reason for the problem that makes it not their fault. Have you had similar situations?

That may be the case but the dealer is telling me that it may not be covered as they might consider it as normal wear and tear.

That's correct. "Technically" they could say it's because of the way you drive

Likely. Perhaps caused by heat soak into a portion of the rotors when stopped after a hard use of brakes. Typical result, for example from inadequate cool down after a driving school session.

You can probably salvage the rotors at least for a while by sanding them on both sides with a coarse sandpaper -- try a sanding disk on a rotary drill or the equivalent air tool. I've done this many times on many vehicles, including my SLK55 after track events, greatly extending the rotor life and eliminating the vibration.

Just an update, brought car into MB earlier this week. They gave me a loaner (Toyota Camry) and told me they would work on it right away. Two hours later the bad news. It seems that sometime in the past 10K I hit a pothole and bent one of the rims. It was bent on the inside so you could not see the damage. Well......$900.00 later I have a new rim (parts, labor and tax). The vibration at 65 MPH is gone but I have not tried high speed braking to see if that vibration is gone. While I was there my SA told me they can repair the scrapes on my wheels for $150.00 each. Some of them (2 wheels only) are really bad. He says I will never know they were damaged. Is that a good or bad deal?

While $900 for a rim is pretty steep, I think $150 for curb rash repairs is pretty decent. I'd go through w/ that price.

I agree. I think 150 bucks is reasonable.
But what are you going to do to keep this from reoccurring?
Have you thought about a little less aggressiveness when parking?

That's what sux about GLK with 20s. Knock on wood, I have only one scratch after one year, but you constanly have to be very careful around curbs. I kinda miss not caring about crap on the road when my car had 150 dollar rims.

My SA was telling me that's why they stopped giving GLK's with 20's as rentals. They had to charge 170 bux for each curb damage to the rim.

It seems that it happens at ATM drive ups and possibly taking corners to sharp. I'll have to be more mindful. BTW the rim was $750, $100 for labor and $50 in tax.

I was going to say that in most cases like this, it's not a warped rotor but a bent rim..... sorry I'm late to this thread... I was away om business.
