GLK 2010. Inquiring about 16-17 inch rims for my GLK

I'd like to know what kind of rims should I get to replace the 19 inch rims that I have right now for the GLK 4matic/4 wheel drive. I would like a 16-17 inch rims to replace it.
So here's the main question. Can I use any 16-17 inch rims from any "Mercedes Benz" model for the GLK?

Thanks!

Do you think the hole patterns are the same? Will they clear the calipers? Will you have proper ventilation? Are you trying to lower the car? Are these for snows? Is it that you don't like the look? Just askin ya know!

MkenM...

That's what I would like to find out.
Reason why I'm wanting not to really switch but to use a tire that will last for about 60,000 miles and not 20,000. So basically it is for practicality. I do love the looks of it. But I was thinking some MB rims that are 16-17s can also be mounted to the GLK.

BEWARE

Remember that even though you can make cross matching wheels *fit*, that does not necessarily mean they will work properly! Seeing others do it doesn't make it right!

Wheels that simply have the same bolt pattern but are not meant for your car can have a detrimental effect on steering dynamics, handling, unsprung weight, and can make the wheel even hit the inner fenders causing damage etc.

There's more to it than just the *bolt pattern*. There are other things that must be considered like *proper center hub fitment*, and most importantly, the wheel's *offset dimension*. Only when these three measurements are correct for the GLK, then any aftermarket or OEM wheel will work.

PS: One more thing. The overall weight of the wheel/tire combo must be considered regardless of the size you chose. Even though the wheels may be smaller, the tire will now be larger. Also, aluminum wheels can be forged or cast. These differences can add unsprung weight to each corner, slowing down the car and making steering much harder.

Check the (German) page with regard MB to rim - and tire specifications: http://www.mercedes-benz.de/content/..._rim.0001.html.
Scoll down to "G, GL, GLK, M-Klasse und R-Klasse." and download "Für GLK Typ X 204".

As you will see are 16" rims/tires not a part of MB specifications.

The figures ETxx,x in the column "Felgengröße" denotes the offset. VA/HA in the column "Montage - Ort" denotes front/rear wheels.

I justed checked out tirerack and it gave 17 or 18" winter wheel/tire combos. There are some decent wheels on there and you can get the whole combo for about $1150 with really nice winter tires. It's probably worth it to buy those if you live in a very snowy areas, compared to buying a set of 20" all-season tires.

16s might not fit due to larger brake disks (i have no idea tho) I'd go with 17s.

MBRedux, are you implying that rubber with air can be heavier than the metal that rim is made out of? I'd love to see a 17 inch combo that's heavier that GLK stock 20's.

MBRedux: thanks... those were my concerns. i wonder if i can have the tire guys re-configure the sensor to match the wheels.

Blaizeitup123 Thank as well.

I am assuming that the UK MB rims for our GLK will have the same specifications for the GLK U.S. Version.

I know it sounds hard to believe but I've seen it many times! (It all depends on the manufacturer of the new wheels... if they are cast aluminum or forged aluminum.) But I once had to go from an 18" wheel down to a 16" wheel on a Mazda in order to qualify for a race. The weight of the 16" combo was heavier! Blew our minds.... we changed both, the wheel and the tire make.. but even then, it weighed the same as the 18" combo, not less!

Given one had two aluminum rims, one cast the other forged, same outline (shape), would weight of the latter be lower as the forging process requires less material for equal load requirements. The forged are the "stronger" and will provide increased payload - within the vehicle's specification.

^ Is that a question? The answer is yes, less material for equal or better load requirements... you answered your own question.

Your welcome.

As the GLK is not available in UK, I don't see what kind of UK MB rims you are referring to. MB Germany, however, do show OEM GLK 17" rims/tires (sorry, I didn't I find an English version), summer:
http://www.mb-configurator.net/mba/w...7f4&dyncnf=mba,

select "Sommerkompletträder", and winter "Winterkompletträder"

Click on the pictures, and you'll find one 17" summer combo and two 17" winter combos shown on the GLK. Of course can the rims be used "any season".

You may even select colour of the GLK by clicking the "Farbauswahl ändern", below the picture of the vehicle

Why are you down sizing? Seems like you are going backward. Most go for an upgrade to 20 inch.

QSHIP.... I know it looks nice and all but I was thinking if I'll spend $350 per tire every 10 months. I think it's more reasonable to get a 17 inch wheel.
Personally, it's more of being practical and spending my money wisely.

Smaller winter size is how it should be.

In fact, I wish 18 inch 5 spoke was standard in US.

The only reason I didn't mind 20's is because they are better than 19's. Rims are easier to clean, 20's have much better tires in US, and I like alum roof rails as I have silver car.

I bought SUV not to care about roads, but with these 20's you have to be very carefull around the curbs and potholes. I would def. get 17 inch set for winter driving, as you never know what's under snow, and 20 inch rim is 700 plus 200-300 tire.

I think one of the key statements Papillon made is "Reason why I'm wanting not to really switch but to use a tire that will last for about 60,000 miles and not 20,000." It sounds like you must rip up the roads. If you have Pirelli Scorpion A/T's they have a tread wear limited warranty of 40K miles. If you are going thru them in 20K miles you need to reconsider your driving habits if you are looking for extended mileage from a tire. In order to get better mileage from a tire you usually need to go to a harder rubber compound in which case you sacrifice in other areas specifically ride and handling. If those are not important you may not have to go a different size rim but to a different tire "Wear AND Speed" rated tire. Remember smaller rim, taller sidewall equals less agility. Did you want a small SUV that rides like a truck. Not sure but I hope you like the ride that the GLK offers. I think we ALL do.

MkenM, I hope you are right about 40k miles, I'm not so sure it'll last that long tho.

Anybody with 20's planning to put 255 wide instead of 235 wide tires?

Taller sidewalls provides "shockabsorbing" to the vehicle - important not at least when running mostly on rough roads. So it certainly works for some of us.
