winter tire from tirerack

I have found a set of winter tire with alloy wheel from tirerack. It is 235/60R17 XL Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow Blackwall
and 17X7.5 Rial Como Bright Satin Sil Paint.
The total price of this package is $1300 + tax and shipping. Is it a good set of wheel for the GLK through the rough winter in Canada?
Please advice.

235/60R17 is a wise decision made for winter tires.

I don't know the Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow tires, as two other brands are the more preferred in my part of the world.

The referred Rial Como Bright Satin Sil Paint does have an "offset" of 35mm, which is by far to small when MB specification for 7.5 J x 17 H2 rims is 47,5mm. Note the GLK Manual, section "Rims and tires".

The wheel should be fit to GLK as per tirerack. I am confuse now.
By the way, the Canadian model doesn't have the TPMS.

Me too. However, a cross-check on the RIAL WEB confirms that RIAL Como Bright Satin Sil Paint rims you've selected (and the dimension of tires) is correct for the 204X GLK:
http://rial.de/_rial/index.php/en/wheels-designs.

The 35mm offset ("einpress", in German) is even approved by TÜV, (a global leader in independent testing and assessment services), in a paper dated 1th. March 2010, covering rims made for Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Unfortunately didn't I find an English version, but a reference to the German paper will be provided, if so wished.

The offset issue made me curious about the limits/bias allowed for the "einpress" as such, and I will forward a request to RIAL and see if they respond to it.

Anyway do I believe you are well off ordering the rims in question

Put in all the tire info into this offset calculator: http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

It says it should clear just fine with that offset.

I used values 235/45/20 with 8.5" rim at 45mm offset for the original wheel/tire
and then put in 235/60/17 with 7.5" rim at 35 mm offset for the new wheel/tire like you said.

GLKKa2H you have been very very helpful! thanks to you again.
A quick response (vacation time in Germany is serious business) to my question on the offset issue forwarded to RIAL, came today. NOTE THE REPLY:

"Hello,

thanks for your email and interest in our product.
Regarding your request we would like to recommend the following application:

Como 7,5x17 ET47 5x112

ET35 is to small and not approved for this car.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / With best regards".

So the RIAL Comos selected by Tire Rack should have been the RIAL ordering number CO75747B72, which are Como 7,5x17 ET47,0 5x112,0, for 235/60R 17 tires.

I guess the reason why Tire Rack "jumped into it" is that the RIAL wheel configurator list the 35mm offset rim, to be regarded as approved for the GLK.

I have forwarded another request to RIAL about the configurator result, and the TÜV approval, and see if they provide any clarifications on that.

Another reply from RIAL, after asking them to confirm that the 35mm offset is not approved for the GLK:

"Hi again,

thanks for your reply.
You're right, I'm sorry - ET35 is suitable, too. But not without any change (bodywork) on the car. This is the reason why it appears at the configuration and why I recommend ET47 (suitable without any changes on the car).

Hopefully that will help you - If there are further questions don't hesitate to contact me again.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / With best regards".

So with the "4 Required centering rings" (spacers?) being a part of "Included hardware" as delivered with the wheels from Tire Rack, you shold be well off. Sorry for making the confusion - and drive safely on the tires in the oncoming winter. Snowfall down to 400m here, two nights ago

Center rings are not spacers. They just fill up the gap between the hub and the new wheel to reduce vibration.

I guess the reason why Tire Rack "jumped into it" is that the RIAL wheel configurator list the 35mm offset rim, to be regarded as approved for the GLK.
By (now) using the Tire Rack "Shop By Vehicle" konfigurator do I not find the RIAL rims in question, or any RIALs among the 22 wheels available for the 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 4MATIC.
The offsets are all between 43 - 50mm.

From this has Tire Rack NOT "jumped into it", as they simply just do not offer the "35mm offset" RIALs for the GLK at all.

I called the tirerack and they confirmed the 35mm offset will fit without any bodywork and the handling should be fine.
So, I guess I will go ahead and order the set.

I have the Pirelli Scorpion snow tires on my 2010 GLK 4 Matic and there great. Cant speak for the rim size, I run an 18" alloy bought as a pkg from TireRack and they are fine, no issue. The tires are great, far better than most of the competation (I said most). Good luck.

I just put a set of Michelin X-Ice Xi2 winter tires with a set of 18x8 Elbrus rims from Tire Rack on my new 2012 GLK and so far they work great (quite, smooth, handling is a little off because of the higher side wall).

Honestly, any winter tire is better than the all season Pirelli Scorpion's that come stock with the GLK. If you read consumer reports rating on the Scorpion all season, it gives very poor ratings for snow driving and breaking on ice.

I run the 17" version and agree they are good tires.

I purchased the entire package back in early November while waiting for my 2012 GLK to arrive from Germany.

You pay an all in price, including shipping and duties in USD on tirerack.com. It works really well and is delivered right to your door, individually wrapped with all hardware inside. I have all the equipment in my garage to do the installations myself.

Total all in cost, including Mercedes Benz center caps was ~$1700 Canadian. Deffinitely not cheap, however keep in mind I went with the more expensive Michelin X-Ice tires. I wanted a really high quality winter tire that was rated second best by consumer reports

Tire spec is 235/55R18 & H rating I believe

When I purchased mine from tire rack I got it delivered in Point Roberts WA as it was just 30 minutes from Richmond BC and only paid $30 for the warehousing fees. Then when I crossed the border I told the custom girl I picked-up some car stuff from a warehouse that I ordered on-line and she just looked at the back of my GLK and told me to go. I save another $450 doing that I was expecting to pay duties but I guess not.

Good price for 18 inches wheels package.
I paid twice the amount for 17 inches rims and tires set at stealership.
