Don't buy front mud flaps for 2011 GLK yet

I ordered 2011 mud flaps for my GLK from dealerfit.com only to discover that there is a 1" gap between the stock running board and the molding cutout on the front mud flaps. It seems the stock running board (not the aftermarket add ons) are 1" less depth on the 2011 models and the mud flaps have not yet been updated even though I specified 2011 year when I ordered. The rear mud flaps still fit though.

Mine had the same problem. The gap is not too bad though.

Sorry, no pics. Didn't bother to install them. I'll wait until the updated 2011 mud flaps become available.

Hi... Are you talking about the after market brands or did your order directly from your MB dealer? I have a 2010 and had some issues with after markets. I returned them and had my dealer order the MB ones and they installed for free since I was doing a tire rotation and 10,000 mile service anyway. I have quickly discovered that a lot of after market stuff is poor quality or does not quite fit like certified MB products or the after market products endorsed and ordered via MB.

Not aftermarket, these were the MB mudflaps. They apparently haven't yet started production of the MB mudflaps for the 2011 GLK which has narrower stock running boards. Some dealers are selling them listed for the 2011 year but they are not.

Thanks for the info as I am getting ready to purchase a 2011. (2nd one for the household) I would hope MB service departments would know this before they ordered, but I guess it is a trial and error thing. I guess my expectation of the image and quality of MB is to know what you are talking about when assisting customers. Perhaps I am asking too much. If I wanted run arounds and trial and errors, I would buy a VW or a Ford!

Confirmed. Purchased front and rear mud flaps for my 2011 GLK 350. Parts ended with 0278 (front w/o running boards) and 0378 (back). Back flaps installed fine but the fronts have a large gap between them and the edge of the rocker panel. Evidently the size of the rocker panel changed from the 2010 to 2011 models to a smaller size with less depth. Had to return the fronts and am waiting for the new 0278 flaps whenever they are available.

Funny how MB changed the rocker boards after a couple of years in production....

Okay... I think I may know what is going on here. If you own a 2010-11 GLK with the standard flared side sill, the front OEM Mud Guards will have a different part number than if your GLK was equipped with the running boards instead. So if you try to cross/fit them, they will obviously NOT work and will have large gaps where they fit together. You must specify if your GLK has the std. *flared sill* or the optional *running board*.

The rear M.Guards will fit no matter what.

Now if MB changed the shape of the running boards, (which I doubt) then it will be necessary to redesign the front M.Guards as well to accommodate the new shape. Only then will a new part number be issued.

So I would check on this before ordering MG's.

Yes, MB changed the standard flared sill.
You get a good view of the new sills in this thread: "https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...-2011-glk.html"
It also was confirmed in a post at "benzworld.org" forum
"Quote: The factory reduced the wide rocker panels by about 1" or maybe 1-1/2" on the 2011. We noticed it right away when both the 2010 & 2011 where sitting side by side."

Obviously, the ones for running boards will not fit the GLKs without running boards. The standard part number for the front mudflaps w/o running boards ends in 0278, which is what I ordered through dealerfit.com (who stated that they were compatible with 2010-2011 GLK models). There is no "standard flared sill" option as that's what "w/o running boards" implies. The part number for front mudflaps with running boards ends in 0478. At this point, neither fits. Interestingly, the parts guy at the MB dealership only shows the 0478 part in his computer so maybe the "standard" ones haven't been shipped out to the US market yet. Just for grins, I placed an order for the 0478 parts and they don't fit either (more of a "["-shaped gap instead of the "<"-shaped gap I saw with the 0278 parts).

Hopefully, MB will get their act together and ship out 2011-compatible mudflaps soon. My GLK looks funky just having the back flaps.

Very interesting that they changed it. MB was getting so slammed by the auto press, especially M/T, C&D, R&T, and Consumer Reports over the way the 2010 std. sills made ingress and egress so difficult because it stuck out so much. It appears they do listen!

Not sure if I like the new design, they could have made it look a little better IMO. The old one isn't much better either and it DOES make getting into and out of the car harder.

I don't know if it looks better or not. But it does make getting in and out easier. My coworker bought a 2011 and the difference in the sill width is noticeable when entering. You can actually get in the car normally without having to worry about hitting the sills with your shoes.

So what you are saying is the sills work better because it is easier to avoid using them.

And why exactly are we buying these..?

The sills are already on the car. And I don't believe you're trying to step on them unless you want to leave scratches all over the place. Maybe Rocker panel would be the more proper term for what we're talking about.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if they now offer a set of front mud flaps that fit the 2011 correctly? If so, is it a different part number than before (Mercedes Part #204-890-02-78) or the same as it was before and one has to hope they get the right set (doesn't make any sense to do it this way but some companies do...)?

Thanks!

Jason

I asked my local dealer the same question last week and in his computer he had a tentative 06/11 date so June, he told me not to count on this date since he's seen these dates change pretty often so....

A sill is NOT a running board. You step on a running board (RB), but not on a sill which is simply a piece of painted plastic cladding that's std. on most SUV's if you didn't buy the optional RB's.

Great info GouLuKat, thanks!

Also, does that mean there is a new part number for front mud flaps to fit 2011s? And if you possibly have the part number by chance please let us know

Thanks again!

Just an update to an old thread...

After almost 2 years of waiting, front splash guards are now available for 2011, 2012, and 2013 GLK350 models without running boards. Look for a part number that ends with 0578. Ordered them last week and installed them myself (very easy to do) yesterday.

Now my car doesn't look odd anymore with just the rear splash guards installed. :P

What, you weren't staring a new trend? I would have kept it that way so people would ask. HAHA!
