PS: Never wash an engine unless its needed very badly. Most electronics and other systems (throttle body, etc) don't respond well to repeated engine washes. Gasoline fumes, from what? Did they spill a bunch all over your car to torch it or something? It's a bull story for sure.

Find another team.

Dag, it sounds like you are one of a very small number of people who question what they did to your car @ Richmond. More people need to look at their bill not not be afraid to ask questions, good for you!!!! A stupid question is the one you never ask. BTW the GLK holds 8.01 L. More people should follow your lead and maybe the dealer will get the message.

As for the Engine wash, I am told this is standard practice to remove the gasoline smell and the oil residue (at this service center).

To the members who takes their car to this service center, is this true?
Hey dagwoodnil, what part did you get refunded?
I believe your SA is A......?

If they did the *spill* while in service, then they should be cleaning up their own mess. Have look inside of your GLK to see if there any oil marks left by the service tech's blue gloves. This should be cleaned up and most times it is an oversight. I have had instances where there was some sort of white reside on the passenger's seat. This was pretty obvious when I picked up my car from service as my interior is black.
My 2 cents....

Basically all the extra (ie. engine wash, fuel additive, washer solvent and washer fluid)

As i said before, I don`t think its the SA as we have been with him for years in Vancouver. I still think its the Richmond shop `MO`. However, he should have pointed these things out to me instead of us discovering it ourself.

Next time, we will need to review our invoice before leaving the shop.

I was quote $350 plus tax for Service A in Vancouver. This included oil change.

Ouch! If you read some of the other threads you will see it's an oil change and inspection. Not for my money

This is not correct for the new 2011 model. Some people reported an overfill after their first service. Therefore I checked with my dealer.

He confirmed that my 2011 GLK 350 4matic, gasoline engine holds 7 Liter only. (He was checking his computer by my VIN number to be correct. I didn't ask for other years.)

My owners manual shows 8, but the online manual shows 7 Liter.
(just for info: the ML350 requires 8 liter also.)
What a confusion.

================================================== ===========
This is from the "MBUSA Service Sheet" sticky:

Engine oil and filter All models 7.4 US qt. (7.0L) Approved engine oils

----------------------------------------------------
I also got confused over this and did a research.
The MB online manual (German) for the GLK states 7.0 Liter for the GLK 350 4Matic (gasoline engine), but 8 Liter for the Diesel. To add to the confusion. The ML 350 (gasoline) requires 8 Liters also.
I will go to the dealer tomorrow to clarify. I was under the impression that all 350 (gasoline) have the same quantity, but obviously, there is a difference. I heard several GLK owners saying they had too much oil. This could be the reason.

EDIT Nov 17, 2010: Just back from the dealer. He checked his data and confirmed that my car (MY2011 350 gasoline) needs 7.4 quart or 7.0 Liter for an oil change to include the oil filter.
Most confusing, my owners manual shows 8 Liter !!!

I don't know how it is with previous model years.

As a rule of thumb, I never ever believe OM's when it comes to tune-up specs. I normally fill the engine with 4 quarts (US) of oil, (on any car) adding more as needed by 0.5qts until full. Then I start the engine, run it for few min., let sit then check the oil level again especially if I changed the oil filter. I then top it off if needed.

Sure it takes a little more time doing it this way but it's well worth it in the end because running around with too much oil in the sump can damage the car.

So.. does everyone that owns a 2010 GLK in the US use 8.5 quarts US to fill up?

Yes, sorry for the confusion. I posted this seversal weeks ago on a different "oil" thread.

Please note:

This oil formulation is no longer available. The new oil recommended by Mobil-1 is their over the counter 0w-40. Castrol Syntec 0w-30 European Formula also meets the 229.5 spec. and is available in the USA.

Even at $200 bucks, you're getting ripped off for an oil change and a walk around the car inspection.

But as a leased vehicle, you must show proper maintenance records or they deduct that cost plus wear at the end of your contract..
