Air pressure for snow tires
What are people running? I have Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow in 235/60R17. Going to put the snow tires on this weekend as we got a little dusting of snow today.

Same tire on mine with the Elbrus 102 Rims. Minus 15C here in Alberta Canada, lots of snow on the major highways and the tires/GLK are performing perfectly...

Air pressure is the same regardless of the size of the tire. Use what ever factory recommanded pressure...34 psi I think.

Since my snow's are here ready to go when needed, I usually wait until I hear that a storm is actually on its way before I'll go through the hassle of putting them on.
But as far as the tire pressure goes, that's a little tricky because of the way this miniSUV is set up. I would either check with the outfit that sold you the tires, call Pirelli directly or the dealership for guidance for that size SNOW tire. (I would call all three and cross reference the data.) You should mention the tire size, that they are indeed snow tires which will be installed in all 4 corners. It does make a difference.
Then please let us know what you find. Good luck.

Running cold tire inflation pressures for the winter (and summer -) tires in accordance with information listed on the the "Tire and Loading Information Placard" on the driver’s door B-pillar, and the "Tire Inflation Pressure Label" on the inside of the filler flap.
Note that tire pressure is reduced by 1.7 PSI for every drop of 50°F (10°C) in temperature, so remember to compensate for tire - and ambient temperatures when checking/correcting tire inflation pressure.

In US/Canada we only have 19 and 20 inch tires that car comes with; so info for 17 inch tires is not stated, please share if you have the info. And it's not on B pillar it's on the gas tank cap over here.

Weird, that calls for an amendment of the MBUSA online 2010 - and 2011 GLK Operator's Manuals.
The pressures recorded, cold tires, on our GLK are as follows:
(235/60)R17 (and R19) tires, three occupants: 2,5 Bar (36 psi) front/rear.
Five occupants and maximum permissible vehicle load: 2,5 Bar (36 psi) / 2,9 Bar (42psi) front/rear.

I think it's actually updated manual, so for some GLK's it might be the case. Earlier batches have it on the inside of the gas tank door.
My manual that came with the car is slightly different from the online manual, as some options and replacements were added to 2010 model later on.

This might be a silly question as this is my first Mercedes, and I just picked up a set of Michelin Alpins winter tires on 17" MB rims... But what hoops do you have to jump through to switch the wheels? Are there special lug wrenches that you need or is it something you should have done at your dealership?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Apologies ahead of time for being a noob!

No hoops. Def no dealer necessary unless they do it for you for free or minimal charge. You can go to any tire shop and ask to swap the wheels. Many do it for free or minimal charge. In the summer I rotate my own tires, but in winter might as well has shop do it in 5 min.

One thing to note is not to over tighten the lug nuts. Some use wrench that measures force. If you over tighten them it will be very difficult to unscrew them later, but more importantly they can snap. I've even used such wrench, just put good amount of force but not as hard as possible. Also If you end up doing yourself:
1) start unscrewing them while car is on the grown, just first quarter-turn, so you are not putting lots of force on the car that is in the air, just a safety thing. The same thing when tighten them again.
2) when you tighten the lugnuts do it in a star pattern for even tightening. i.e. next lugnut should be across and not next to the one you just worked on. And do it several times so you tighten them evenly.

Tightening torque as specified by MB is 96 lb-ft. Note the warning in the 2008 C-class Operator's Manual: http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...350sport_1.pdf
"Wheels could become loose if not tightened with a torque of 96 lb-ft (130 Nm)."

For regular street running the specified psi would be correct.
If you're really treking through snow and won't see speeds over 30 or 40 I would run 20-25. Same for sand and offroad. On jeeps they run 12-15 and 8 for rock crawling. But then they have rim locks and a way to air backup for on-road. Low 20's is enough pressure to keep from spinning the bead as long as you keep your foot out of it. Traction is vastly improved.
The rec psi is for highway speeds and max load carrying.
I am surprised and impressed that they actually considered the car for off-pavement driving in it's design process. Even though its a car. Driver skill required.

So, I picked up some snows and rims the other day and want to see if I got as good of a deal as I think I might have. Got a set of Michelin Alpin Pilot's on Mercedes 17" rims (tires have 200 miles on them) with FREE SHIPPING for $1,050. The pictures show that everything is in quite good condition... That's a pretty fair price right?
