3rd windshield
17 months with the GLK and going on to my 3rd windshield. 15 years of driving the same roads and never had a problem until the GLK. At least I finally have a reason for glass coverage on my insurance.

Yup, it's almost vertical.
A few tips:
During inclimate weather, stay back at least 2 car lengths for every 10mph of speed
Never ride behind a truck, (dump truck, 16-18 wheeler etc) in any weather.
Avoid driving behind SUV's or even cars that do not have rear mud guards
Always try to have no one in front of you at highway speeds.
Improve windshield updraft by buying wiper arms with proven spoilers. These help reduce debris damage.

Replacement is quick and the guy who has done it says MB made them very easy to change and has guards against rust and leaking. Claims it was one of the easiest installs he has ever done. Takes about 1/2 hour

Cracked ours this weekend. We were just cruising on the way to St Louis for a supercross race and a huge rock comes flying up and nails the windshield. Sucks, but I'd rather it hit that than the hood or something.

JDM, did they use an OEM Mercedes windshield or was it like a safelite or something? Sounds like it might be hard to get oem out of my insurance company but I don't know if maybe one is better than the other.

Your insurance should let you pick the company that replaces your windshield. I just ask the windshield people to make sure its oem. Takes a few days to get it but looks new again.

Well my insurance company said I would have to pay the difference. Just for fun I asked safelite what the difference would be and to both of our suprise the OEM glass is cheaper! She said they had one in stock but said there was a weird note on it so she is calling the dealer now to make sure they one they have in stock is correct. She is making sure my insurance company is cool with it too just to cover all the bases. Gotta say, they are very helpful. She also said they prefer to have the higher end vehicles brought into the shop for a more controlled environment so that is nice. Should know pretty quick what's up, and it looks like they can do it in the morning too.

When I had mine replaced there were only OEM's available. Safelite replaced it for $525.00. Unfortunately my deductible was $500.00

Was the MB sticker on the new windshield? Some have said they do not come with it and the sticker costs 20$. My new windshields have had it but im not sure if the original sticker was taken off and put on the new one.

If you are referring to the sticker in the lower right hand corner of windshield (looking from the inside), it did not but then again, who cares? Well not me at least. I knew it was an OEM windshield because Safelite had to order it from one of the MB dealers in the area. Safelite had not started to produce the GLK windshield at the time. It was too new.

Check out their video. The announcer says nothing about drying out and being scratched by the wipers over time.

Had a few customers that had that applied. Looked good brand new, but scratches real easy after a year or so. One actually asked us to remove it because the wipers had made ugly sweeping lines in it. We refused to comply out of fear we would break his windshield trying to get it off.

Finally got it done this morning. It took a while to get my insurance company to approve using the OEM glass but it all worked out. Installers said it was a breeze, took about an hour. I noticed it doesn't have the little sticker on the inside right hand side-is that something that can be ordered?
Lets just hope this one lasts longer than a month!

Took a couple of rocks and mine cracked all the way across, 3K miles on the car.
Insurance paid for OEM replacement at dealer body shop. No sideline installers or cheap glass for me. I wanted an experienced MBZ installer, using all OEM glass, adhesives, and trim. The sticker was on the bill, they are $8.
Total install was $983. I paid my $250 deductible. Left the car overnight so the adhesive had time to setup. The glass is a structural component so it's highly advised to let the urethane setup before driving them.
You cannot tell mine was replaced.

You guys have any problem with the rain sensor after replacement? Every time we start the car it cycles the wipers, and occasionally randomly goes off. I thought maybe the glue needed to dry more or something but if it doesn't stop by the weekend I am going to have them look at it.
