Haven't found one that's free. Do you need help with something specific?

The voice prompt will supply the directions as you drive. If you need to enter a destination you have 2 choices, one is to talk to the COMAND system and the second is using the COMAND controller knob on the console.
The easiest and slower way is by using voice command. Are you familiar? Just push the button on the steering wheel and say "Navigation" the system will guide you from there. If you have not trained the system for your voice you may have to do that. But the voice command is the easiest way to enter a destination.
Hope that is a start for you.

You can turn on your fav music then switch to Nav. When Nav has something to say the music will be dimmed.

The COMAND Operator's Manual (section Navigation, page 45 thru 89) may be helpful: http://www.mercupgrades.com/manuals/...Y10-manual.pdf. ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Looking for an answer for updating the Navigation software. (some POI's and some routing are outdated) I was told by the dealership that updates are offered only every 3 years - last one in 2009. Is this factual? If so, it is unacceptable. I have a portable Garmin GPS ($200.00) which can be updated online. There has been 3 updates in the last 2 years for the Garmin. What gives with Mercedes???????????

Our Garmin blows it away... free traffic, radar, red light and speed camera locations and alerts, free map updates for life.... what a complete waste of money our OEM system is. (Oh, did I mention the map and graphics are superior as well?

There is a Navigation update for 2011. It costs $249.

I agree with MBRedux that the Garmin is far superior. I have a Garmin for our other car and it works well. The Nav system does in some cases give you cross streets when you zoom all the way in, I think it is 1 tenth of a mile. When you use the Nav in conjunction with the Nav menu in the speedometer there is some useful information when Nav is set for guidance. And when it's not set it does tell you the street you are on.
Not saying it is anywhere near as good as the Garmin but it does get me where I want to go. I have used the COMAND control wheel when my car is stopped to move the cursor around on the map to see cross street names which it does provide and other things. It is handy in that respect.
NAVTEQ makes the maps for most vehicles out there including Garmin. It just comes down to the interface that provides the look and feel. I could have bought a whole bunch of Garmins for the price of the COMAND system but I do like the look of it built into the dash.

thanks for the link - Navteq states that my maps are current. This tells me what I suspected - that this navigation system is inferior to others - especially Garmin.

Just remember Navteq provides the map updates but they are not going to update the operating system technique of how it performs.

I seriously just want to replace the NAVI with my Android phone!
I love the built-in look of the stock, but it's a PITA to use!
This is one of the biggest disappointing thing about this vehicle.

I live in TX all streets, and hi ways are listed accurately. Even small town streets. I live in Spring/Woodlands area a suburb of Houston but work in Conroe a small town, all strees are listed there too. On I 45 which I use all exits show up as I drive, and it even lists gas station by name Exxon, Chevron ect, tells me a motel or restaurant is located on each exit.
Its works for me, and now I can use my voice too, thanks to the forum.

Nav issues
It is true that sometimes the zoom needs to be changed a click or two to display some items.

My nav works just fine. It shows everything that my Garmin does (use in BMW). In fact, I checked out features before I ordered it in the GLK. It shows traffic, gas, restaurants, obviously maps and navigation etc. All the streets are labeled if you zoom in (are you looking at fullscreen and zooming in/out?). I really don't get where you are coming from other than the price.

I just found out that the system is not saying street names like a tomtom or similar....just like "turn left in 200m" WTF that is like 5 years ago technology.
