2012 GLK-Class is almost absolutely unchanged, except some minor revisions and new colors. You can see complete and FULL specifications with packages, options and color codes here: 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class changes and updates.. There are some really new good choices for the exterior color paint...

2012 GLK
With a much nicer steering wheel (optional wood ) and newer updated dash too! Better steering wheel controls.. and elsewhere. It's a copy of Audi/VW command steering wheel controls.

Well the article you link is wrong about the new engine. The GLK is getting the new Direct Injected 3.5L engine from all that I'm reading. USA models will now get the Euro 20" wheel. The other has been dropped. There will be new colors (a new Blue, Red and White has been added, the older colors are gone.) and a few changes to the front and rear bumpers and tails. (Full LED) There is a rumor about a turbocharged engine as well. It's most likely a 4 banger (which most likely will not be coming to our shores) but some say there may be a Turbo-V6 as well... (AMG Power in a DI Turbo V6 maybe?) That would be sweet!

2010 GLK350 4MATIC, 2006 SLK350
I work for MB Canada now and I can tell you guys for the Canadian market, the 2012 GLK is not getting a new engine. Media Interface relocated to centre console, 20 single disc CD player replaces 6 disc changer, and new white, blue, green colors options. Some of the packages will be new but most revised.

The more I think about, this more concerned I get about Mercedes soon to be all Direct Injected lineup.
Is there anyway to prevent this? 3 oil changes a year or something?
What would be the solution when it gets this bad? What could they do?
Just doesn't make sense to me, to put these cars out there, if they are really going to look like that after 40k miles.
