''S" mode

Does anyone figured out how to set ''S" mode every time we start the car?

I think most of us prefer "S" mode when we're driving.

If anyone figured out please share with the rest of us.

Thanks

It's an economy play by MB.
It will always reset to E after restart.

As Venchka stated, press the button.
You're already there with your hands on the shifter to get to "D".
Takes you what 2 millisecs?

2 milisec??? Are you really that quick??
I am not.
I know it's just a push of a button, but it's kinda annoy if we stop/start and go a lot.
For example, left side mirror, I can set it so when I put in "R" it's tilt down.
It would hope it could do the same for "S" mode.

Well in the States:

1) 2 millisecs is just a different habit you get into - faster than putting on your seatbelt & that's a habit no?

2) We try to avoid having to restart the engine because that would mean not driving more & wasting gas.

3) When I select R, the passenger mirror doesn't tilt down unless I have already pre-select it.

Well, maybe the ones in the States does not have that feature.

The passenger mirror on mine does tilt down as soon as I put in "R", and does go back to normal when I put in "D'.

I know probably there is no way to have in "S" mode as a default mode, but I just hope some one might know a secret or hidden menu to select it.

Example: like reference line for back up camera.

Check why this is not always true pg 99 owners manual...

According to the manual, not always the best source of information, you can adjust the reverse tilt of the mirror to suit your taste and add that setting to the driver's seat memory.

Sorta - it gets added to memory as a to do when in reverse not as a dedicated seat setting.
But it gets deselected if one of the 3 conditions on page 99 occurs.
I tested it yesterday & it appears true.

Cool

I will read page 99, assuming the 2012 manual hasn't changed, when I have the manual in hand. I will also ask the delivery-setup person to adjust the mirror for Lisa & I.

Wayne
Standing by for a manual. And a GLK to match the manual.

This can be permanently set to "S" but you would need access to someone with MB/Command to enter the ECU to set the parameter from the factory default setting to manual set.

Well, for those who are NOT in the know..or those that may not know....it's done all the time without risk. As a matter of fact, my MB dealer actually sells & assists in this service.*

If you have to ask, then that person isn't in "fight club."
I highly doubt the ECU/blackbox won't record a preset that is outside the planned MB algogithm.
Ie - that would be hard to hide.

BTW - Having owned BMW's M division cars, I wholly know that the ECU can be hacked on the after market, grey market or supermarket & usually will come with a warning that doing so will extinguish any manufacturer's warranty.

No hacking, it's all up front... no secrets ... we do it Nissans, Infiniti's, BMW's, Merc's, Porsche's, Audi's, VW's all the time. In fact, you can buy the software online.... no mystery.

I was responding in the spirit of the OP's tone.
& responding to your 'wink wink" in the know comment.
If it sounds like a quack, it must be a hack.

My buddy has a Vantage & he paid for his official ProDrive "hack" because there isn't much grass roots enthusiasts participating in recalibrating the ECU in the Aston community vis a vis the BMW community where there are numerous different companies doing it @ a competitive price.

Maybe it's only on Canadian models, but my 2010 GLK is in "S" mode the whole time, no resetting every time I start the car.

It's just a simple setting in the cars set-up software... it's country specific.

is there really a big difference using the S mode? if i want to control the engine speed better i just simply slap the paddle shifters or the shifter then have it sporty and hear the kiddie-like engine sound the glk makes. i tried using the S mode and I really didn't see any difference at all.

Marketing Gimmick. It does turn your 6 speed transmission into a 7 speed transmission.

There are two changes:
1st gear starts.
Slightly higher RPM shift points.

Measure those differences with your atomic stopwatch.

I wouldn't call it marketing as you do feel the difference in performance.
from lethargic & fuel sipping to enthusiastic & less miserly.
btw - The BMW E60 M5 used to let you drive around with only 400HP out 507 HP turned on for fuel savings.
& I do know some enthusiasts did just use 400 for daily driving ("savings").

While E vs. S doesn't affect suspension in US GLK.
I do think that if you start driving harder in S, the suspension will adjust as well.
Which lends to the sporty nature of the setting.

I certainly can detect the difference in engine performance in "S" vs. "C" -- it is obvious when climbing the steep winding hill up to the development where we live.

WRT the suspension -- I assume it must be psychological in the GLK, but it surely seems that in "S" mode the suspension stiffens and that overall the suspension/steering is more responsive also. (I do have adjustable suspension with 3 settings in my CLS550, so I am familiar with the effect.)
