Engine build

I just saw on the local news that Nissan will soon start to build M-B and Lexus engines at a plant here in TN. Pretty soon all cars will be identical.

I know Nissan is in MS. Is this a new plant or one they bought? Saturn maybe? Did they say which engine? Sounds fishy. M-B likes to keep things in house. Or did. Why would Nissan build Toyota engines?

A bit more of the story. 4 cyl. Engines for C class cars built in Alabama. Two things I won't buy if I can help it.

As a NISMO tuner, I was aware of this alliance for some time now. It's but one of the reasons why I'm here. If I were running Daimler, there would be no better company than Nissan to handle the task.. The hand built GT-R engine is highly respected by Mercedes Benz and AMG brass.

It's a joint venture. M-B will be onboard, in house, probably suppling parts, hardware, etc. Much cheaper for them than adding this capability in Tuscaloosa. C-class production in the USA adds jobs for us. A win win win arrangement.

Just as info BMW had their 5 series transmissions built by GM. So MB subbing out isn't uncommon. Lets hope MB has some serious QA people on site, Beemer didn't.

It's just a bunch of robots tooling metal and bolting things together. What difference does it make who owns the building?

Agreed. Not sure why some people act like they are not living on this earth with the same humans that they are!

That is surprising, I have never heard this before. GM usually build a pretty decent automatic transmission, they have been doing it for a long time
