Broken Turn Signal

I was attempting to change out the front turn signal bulbs for LED, now the entire turn signal unit will not work at all, I tried putting back the Halogen bulb and it appears 'loose,' any ideas would be appreciated....

Thanks

Is it possible that the new LED bulb base is slightly larger than the original? The metal bits that contact the bulb may have been sprung open just a bit?
The old Redneck advice does come to mind, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Too late I know.
