Brakes & Noise

Brakes & Noise
My first post, please be gentle.
I bought a 2010 GLK with 12,000 miles (19,000 km). It has the 20'' wheels with the Pirelli tires. When I apply the brakes at low speed I hear a rubbing type of a noise. Thinking this was an issue with the front brakes and went to see a MB dealer. I was told this was the low profile tires making the noise.
While there is little bit of a tire noise happening on certain surfaces, does this answer make sense? Does anyone have a similar issue? Why is the noise there only when the brakes are applied?
Thanks for any feedback.

Do you hear the sound with the windows up or down? Forward, reverse or both? Approximate speed? I ask so that I can try to replicate your conditions and listen to my GLK and 20" Pirelli tires.

Can be heard more with windows up, speeds 10-40, at higher speeds and with hard braking not noticeable. Thanks for following up.

i could very well be uneven wear on the tires. I recently had my tires rotated (Dunlops though) and it was making some weird "oiii oii" sound when coasting to a stop. scared that it was a transfer case problem but dealer rotated the tires back and the noise was gone. I do need to get rid of these Dunlops before winter cause the wear is terrible and they're just loud now...

Going to the dealer (but not sure when) and will report.
