Traffic / Navigation (GLK 2013)
Hi everyone,
Looking at ordering the GLK Diesel when it is finally available here in Canada.
I've become accustomed to using real-time traffic GPS services like TomTom HD Traffic and Waze. They've really cut down my commute each day. That being said, I would love to have an integrated system so I'm not fumbling with my iPhone while driving.
In Canada I understand mercedes COMAND navigation has the standard FM traffic updates (i.e., only major highways). I've found that service to be useless as the side roads close to the highway end up being just as jammed up.
I've been reading on mbrace2 and mercedes "apps" coming out. There is some mention of traffic through the internet and your smartphone. I'm assuming the 2013 COMAND system will allow you to tether to your smartphone for some kind of real-time traffic updates.
Does anyone have any information on this?
Cheers

Believe it when you see it. Wait. Wait. Get a real time demostration. Then maybe it works.
In the meantime, SiriusXM Traffic + 2012 COMAND Navigation work well in major cities. Is your city on the SiriusXM Traffic list?

Oh I know, I went to training on MBrace2 for the '13 SL. From what the instructor said...no tethering, traffic from Sirius, apps will be limited at the beginning and possibly will be added in the future. The data is 3G, The main thing I like about the new interface is the owners manual in COMAND, makes things much easier to look up just in case you forgot how to program the homelink or any features that are new on your car that you are not used to.

SiriusXM Traffic info + 2012 COMAND Navigation.
We were driving in the Boonies yesterday as is our custom. We crossed I-20 at a point midway between Dallas, TX and Shreveport, LA. Roughly 100 miles to each city. We had SiriusXM traffic info. on our screen. I-20 had the green bands indicating free flow of traffic. I like it.

Coverage is on the 400 series highways and some of the major streets (Kingston Rd, Avenue Rd, Bathurst, DVP, Gardiner...).
I'm assuming when the 6 month subscription runs out, I will lose my traffic updates. I'm not a Howard Stern fan, so I'm will not be subscribing to the sat radio service. J
I have a holder for my BlackBerry and use BlackBerry Traffic instead. It rocks.

I got the Becker Nav on my GLK.
It gets traffic from broadcast radio stations (rather than Sat), and works well enough.
I primarily use my Droid in a cradle for nav, nothing beats Google nav. I would only spring for Comand if I traveled a LOT on complex trips and absolutely had to have SendToBenz and RouteToBenz. And I don't.
