Ordering tires on 13 GLK in NA, not

Talked to the Sales Director. He said under no circumstances could I

Specify tires on an ordered car

Swap tires once it comes in

Swap wheels and tires of same size with another car.

Why?

"the tire wheel combo has a unique build number. If there is a problem we are liable."

So I asked why I couldn't specify part of the build number and he just walked away.

As you the 12 GLK has good to bad AS tires so I just my wife to have the best on her 13.

What happens in the rest of the world re specifying tires?

Usually the better tires come on 20" wheels. Other than that, it's a spin of the dice. Swapping out different tires on the same type and size wheels from another new vehicle shouldn't be an issue. The guy sounds like a real jerk. Tires are NOT VIN specific on these base cars. He's wrong. Go to another dealer.

Not possible in our part ("top -") of the world either - on our request. We could select from combos 19" front/rear, and 17" -, two sets of 19" - and two sets of 20" staggered, but specified tires - no way.

This goes for another make as well.

I have never been able to specify on ANY vehicle I have ordered. Ford's Dodges and MB's. On my last go around with this '12 GLK. I ordered 20" wheels, and the Pirelli Scorpion All Season with the snowflake on the mountain emblem came factory. I was happy as that was what I wanted.

Good advice on 20" wheels. Unfortunately they are less pothole friendly.

What do you mean by "better" tires?

The guy is a jerk but I think he has pictures of the owner or something.

I have been in the car business for 12 years, from the different manufacturers I never have seen an ability to select a tire brand. The 19" wheels tend to be the Conitnentals and the 20" wheels either have Pirelli or Dunlop. The contis are OK and my clients seem happiest with the Pirelli or Dunlops. My wifes GLK must have a bad set (continental) as they sound like they grind against the pavement between 60-70MPH and it produces a slight vibration in the steering wheel that drives me crazy.

I have had the dealer change the tires for every car I have ordered. I always special order. This has been true for Mercedes GLK, Cad escalade and Volvo. The factory will not do so, but I have never had a problem with the dealer doing so. They then sell them as new.

I just ordered a '13 GLK 350 and am getting the AMG 20" wheel package. It comes with the pirelli scorpion zero tires which are as bland and basic as can be in a 245/35. I'm going to evidently either run the tires that come for a year then change or trade towards some michelin pilot super sport tires at discount. Will likely have to go to a 255 size tire, but I don't mind a larger tire. Better traction and safety, plus it just looks better.

If I had a dealer, and I have, treat me like that, I just walk. In fact. Mercedes Benz of Plano Texas is just this way. (Shameless name drop)

Nope, can't specify tires.

When my 2013 E came with tires I didn't want I made a deal with my dealer.
They gave me $XX trade in on my tires, sold me the tires I wanted for $YY and charged $80 or $100 to mount and balance.

It was worth it to me, to get the tires I wanted.
You could inquire about such a transaction.

Best of luck

Our 2012 GLK came with 20" Pirellis. 15,000+ miles and no complaints. Had it come with Dunlops, I would not have taken delivery until they were changed. Unfortunately, the selection in the 20" OEM tire size is slim and none. Pirellis or nothing.
