I'm still surprised by the lag between full throttle & a downshift. Which isn't far enough down. Then someday, maybe, the transmission finally finds Launch Control. I'm spoiled by full time, all the time turbo torque and a 5 speed transmission that downshifts to third instantly. That is Launch Control!

The GLK's the first car i've ever owned whereby i sometimes need to floor it to pass a yellow light etc. Never had to do that even on less powerful cars in the past. Definately more of a cruiser vehicle. I know the Acura's/infinitis i had before have really eager responses but they weren't SUVs

"Adaptive shift behavior" + 7 speed double overdrive. 7th gear is a Yawner! 5th gear is where things start happening. The adaptive thing obviously means "When I get around to it."
It would interesting to drive a real Autobahn ready GLK in the The Mother Country. Could be a totally different vehicle.

But seriously, we're planning a trip to the UK next year. I wonder if there's anything close in that part of the world where we could have fun with a rental GLK. But right now, the thought of going fast on the wrong side of the road sounds a bit terrifying. not to mention driving from the right seat .
As to our own GLK here in the states, I have driven it up California highway one quite a few times and it really feels at home in the windy, twisty, up and down two-lane highway. But then, I have it in the "S" mode plus the slower stretches of the highway keep the transmission in the lower gears.

3.5L,
Right on, Brother! I totally enjoyed the GLK in the mountains around Boone, NC. Roads where 35 was pushing the envelop.
UK rentals: I accidentally found a web site today offering an Austin Healy 3000 for hire. That is how you should tour the Old Country. I'll try to find it again tomorrow.

It would be fun to tour that area of the country for a day in one of those classics. If I opted for the E-Type Jaguar I'm sure I would go for the Fixed Head model. I certainly wouldn't pay that kind of money for one with a Broken Head
Seriously, if I do it, I agree that the Austin Healey 3000 would be the way to go (assuming good weather). And it appears that they will come get you if something unfortunate should happen. Heh!

GLK 2013 (appearance package, Premium 1 Package, Multimedia Package, Black on Black), Lexus IS 2008
I love my 2013 GLK (only had it a few weeks). I went from Jeep Liberty to Land Rover LR2 and was shopping between X3, Q5 and the GLK. I'm VERY happy with my decision over the other two. Audi was surprisingly loud. The GLK has great acceleration and speed (302 hp) over the other two. It handles well enough to my usage but then, upgrading from what I had--although the LR2 did well--anything would be an improvement. And lets hope I get more reliability out of the GLK than the other 2 (nightmares). My only complaint is the standard audio which is tinny and flat. Unsure about who could upgrade that for me. Any ideas? I'm not savvy enough to upgrade it myself.

There are some knowledgeable posters on the MBWorld Audio & Electronics forum (https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics-38/), so maybe you should (re-) post your question there? A response may even give you a reference to a shop.

I listen to everything from satellite radio to CD's and mp3s. But I will try checking out the audio forum suggested.

Satellite radio audio is sub-par. CDs are the best source to judge a system. Our stock system puts a smile on my face. When I'm driving alone. When the Co-pilot/Minister of Sound Level is riding in the co-pilot seat the volume level is severely curtailed.
Good luck!

Same thing with my 48 Chevy. If her rear main seal isn't leaking, the crankcase is empty. I keep an old kitty litter pan under her while she's parked in my garage to minimize the mess she leaves. I've seen three of the old Healy 3000s running around here this past Summer - all of them restored. My roomate in college had one back in the late 60's - I loved to ride in that thing. Now, It'd take three firemen to unfold me and get me out of one.

My 2013 is great for what its dedigned for and in the recent roundup in motor trend it was one of the quickest CUVs out there. If I want to really take off my C63 take care of that.

My 2010 felt like this. More accelerator pedal stroke was needed to get it going. My 2013 is completly different. I believe the accel pedal drive by wire mapping has changed as well as the force to push the pedal is reduced. Combined with the increased HP and torque of the new engine, my 2013 feels outright athletic vs my old 2010. 2013 is more sport vs my 2010 which felt more utility vehicle.

A butt-load of a nice engine singing is probably unlikely from a CR-V. The best singing engine under load was the straight 6 in a 1993 E320. The sound of fine silk tearing. The V6's could never do this.
On the muscle cars from times gone by - the suspension was worse than bad by modern standards. You could go around a corner and wonder if the rear of the car was going to follow you. Enough gas and it wouldn't. I've had some amazing old cars. A 1963 Buick Riviera, a 1967 Caprice SS396 and a 1969 Impala 427. They were all good for a straight line run - only.
