melco command version 9 vs version 10

Is there a big difference between the two updates? just installed version 9 and a buddy of mine is asking if I want to pool in for the version 10. I was told the version 9 already has the 2012 update. Anyone know the technical details on the maps on this updates?

Is it just the map update you're talking about or a Comand system update?

A little off topic, but where do you see the current map version (assuming it's somewhere in the engineering menu)?

Just the map update. I have both disks (gave in to the offer) but too lazy to install version 10 as I do not want to waste 2 hours of gas while idling the car to install the update but I found the update will install while the car is in motion (in my c300). I was told that version 9 is a 2011-2012 update and the version 10 is a more recent 2012 update.

For the GLK you can see the map version on the NAVI menu (map info) and it will show you what version you have.

If you want to loan the disks just let me know and I can meet you up somewhere around town and that will save you $$$ just make sure you return them or maybe I'll just make a copy for you.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for an update to the Comand software but guess I'll just ask the dealer to do it at the next service.

Didn't notice your location at first, good to see other people from Vancouver on here!

Thanks for the offer on the map update, I've got version 10 but haven't installed it yet so wasn't sure if it would update the Comand software too. Plan to update the map database tomorrow, does it really take 2 hours

not more than 2 hours for sure. what I noticed is the dealers in vancouver won't update the comand software without a real problem (I asked already) so better have a good excuse for the update or bring a box of tim hortons and give it to your service advisor and tell him you want the comand updated.

btw... where do you bring your car for service?

I've only had the car for about six weeks but plan to take it to Mercedes on Broadway and Hemlock since that is the closest dealer to me.

My reason for wanting the Comand update is to get the guide lines on the rear view camera. It's not available on mine now even in the engineering menu. Not sure if there are any other differences or not.

Is there a certain dealer you recommend? What about parts and accessories, I assume all the dealers charge the same?

It depends. I go to two different dealers depending on what the problem of the car is. If it is technical or mechanical I go to the Vancouver broadway dealer (fav. service adviser is Peter) as the master mechanic there really know the cars and he sees and hears things that I don't usually hear and get it fixed even though I don't bring it up. If it is cosmetics like squeeking noise or peelling chrome moulding I go to the Richmond dealer (fav. service adviser is Shareen) as I find them more accomodating on such imperfections. I also notice that in Broadway they will always give you a Merc loaner not like in Richmond that they have a short supply of Merc loaner cars. Both dealers are really good in customer service and price for service is the same. All mercedes benz (north shore, broadway, richmond, commercial + the north shore body shop) are owned by Mercedes Benz Canada so you will get the same treatment and will take you seriously not like if you go to the Surrey Dealer. If you get on any accidents just bring it to the North shore body shop (usually 1 month waiting list) and you will not regret it!

Great info, thanks! Does Vancouver MB give you a loaner car even if it's only a small routine service check?

Updated my nav database to v10 this morning, sitting around waiting 2 hours while it updated wasn't that much fun. Hopefully I will actually use it to find something someday.

Now, if I can somehow get the Comand software updated.....

You have to request for it. If it will be a one-two hour work usually they won't unless you specify you need one when you make a appointment. They won't say NO to you but you have to inform them what your needs are so that they can accommodate you.

The guide lines are available in the engineering menu. They are not dynamic though - just static. If you have the "hybrid" section, the last option (can't remember the menu text) but offers either "none" or "x204" as the selectable options. Set it to "X204" and you are good.

I just bought a set of v.9 disks on fleabay to update my Euro Navi to NA maps. If that all works out, are you still up for a loaner of V.10? Happy to pay for a 2 day rental...

Marco<at>bussadori<dot>com

I have added a rearview camera and a bunch of other stuff. I have plugs for rear seat screens and can make up harnesses for less than $100 (or a 2 day loaner of the v.10 dvd's ;-) and am working on hacking the Hard Disk so to be able to increase it to 250/500GB from the measly 40 it is now...

Stay tuned...

That selection doesn't seem to be available in the engineering menu on my car. Here is where I looked:

7 HW Setting
7.7 HU Parameter
7.7 (25) SRVC Guide Line then select X204

On my car the 7.7 menu only has 3 pages and doesn't go up to 25, from images I've seen (25) SRVC Guide Line is a selection on page 4.

Sent you a PM about the nav disk.

Even though I really want to see how you do it but for me 40GB is more than enough. In fact, I have zero (0) song in HDD. I've found it takes too long to rip a CD to HDD. Currently I am using PCMCIA adapter with CF cards and I am very happy with it.
