When is Diesel Available in Canada/USA?
I thought the diesel should have been here by now. Does anyone know when it will actually hit our shores?

I don't think anyone knows except possibly general managers at dealerships. Salesmen haven't got a clue.
There are rumors floating around about problems with the injectors and about the oil pan being a problem in the GLK.
Who knows what the truth is but one thing seems clear, some kind of problem has caused the delay since GLK's with the diesel were shown to the media a long time ago.

I ordered my 250 BlueTec a week ago. The build time is February 3rd decade (20-28th im assuming). They said it would be here 1st week of April assuming everything goes ok.

Was this an order or a pre-order? if an actual order they would have given you the final price and signed all the paperwork I assume. My dealer says they can put the order into the USA/Canada MB office (pre-order) but the actual order is not able to go to Germany yet. Lets hope they are finally ready to build them.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up on this. Looks like the BlueTec (only available in 4-matic) is around 1,500 Canadian dollars less than the 350 4-matic. Also lists some stuff about the engine under one of the tabs, but fuel economy is still "tbd". Will be looking out for when the US site gets updated.

While awaiting the TBDs to become "Ds", you may enjoy the MB specifications: City 31.4 - 33.6 MPG, combined 36.2 - 38.6 - and highway (außerorts) 40.6 - 42.8 -. Current figures believed to be with the engine equipped with solenoid injectors.

I'm also wondering how the "add-blue" system affects the fuel economy if at all. (because the 220's don't use it right?)

The figures given is with regard to the GLK 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC, the one with the fertilizer (ADBlue).
Even the 220s are now available as "fertilizers" - the GLK 220 BlueTEC 4MATIC, the BlueEFFICIENCY doesn't have.

Has zero effect on mileage. The BlueTec system injects the fluid into the exhaust AFTER the fuel burns. The ammonia in the concoction apparently does away with the noxious fumes, so they've determined. There's another thread here on the subject of availability. I'm picking mine up in Germany in May.

This is good to know, just did not know if they were forced to make changes to the catalytic converter to add on the ad-blue system. If it gets anywhere near the mpg that GLKKa2H suggested (I'm assuming those numbers are from the European testing authority?) I'll be elated. I know sometimes the new epa numbers can be a harsher critic than others. However I currently drive something rated at 27 mpg highway and can regularly get 31-32 on commute drives.

And yes, looking at the European and EPA test figures, the latter are more conservative, e.g. respectively for the GLK 350 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY / GLK 350 RWD (EPA) combined: 27,4 - 29MPG / 21 MPG. Empirically is our 220 closer to the European figures.
Enjoy your (torque) 250 BlueTEC when you pick it up
Maybe - or maybe not. Comparing 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY / 220 CDI BlueTEC, there is seen minor deviations on the city and highway (außerorts) figures.

Thanks, we're really looking forward to this car! Some of your other posts helped me make my choice, we're in a cold-climate state (minnesota) and I wasn't sure a diesel was going to be right for that. But you are in arctic circle Norway right and that has got to be worse than Minnesota! (even if it was -15 F for a lot of this week). It's my Norwegian/Sweede heritage that allows me to cope with the climate here

Keep in mind that (almost) all diesel cars in cold European climates do have some kind of parking heaters, like Webasto and Eberspächer for mobility/flexibility, however implies current surge from the battery, or DEFA with block heater, battery charger and requirement for commercial power (230V).

Bremen update
I have a close friend who works at the factory in Bremen on the GLK line in an electrical engineering role. I originally asked him why the diesel was so delayed and he looked into it and found that the engine did not meet emissions requirements and that they had to retune the 250 for North America. I went with the 350 after learning this as it could involve a de-rate.

Perhaps they are waiting until their big ad airs on February 3rd (superbowl and their CLA campaign starts) to update the site. Will be a lot of cross traffic on the site that day.

I was just advised that the introduction date in the US is April 20. Production has started this week. I've just ordered my car for European delivery May 20. Mine is scheduled for assembly March 3. Apparently they are limiting allotments to dealers initially. I got some BS about having only 3 available for ordering now. Anyway, my order is in!

The figures I've seen for the 250 BlueTec were 190 hp and 369 ft/lb torque. The canadian mb site does reflect that. I have seen what you are talking about with regards to other 250's tho coming in at 200-205 hp for other markets maybe the 190 is already de-rated. Also the promotional materials given to the media at the refresh re-launch (spring 2012) reflected the 190/369 numbers. Will be interesting to see how this all sorts out, and hopefully they will have the EPA fuel numbers when the US site receives the update.

This rumor has been going on for the US market for about 3 years now. Still waiting to see on here on US soil. Have seen several in Europe though. Never been lucky enough to grab one as a taxi yet.
