Not sure about Canada, but in US MB offers one of the best roadside assistance programs for lifetime of your MB as long as you spend 100 bux a year at dealer on service (or something along those lines). Any car can leave you stranded, but at least MB makes it easy to recover. I believe it even includes towing to the closes MB dealer.

To OP, higher mileage cars actually do very well. Plenty of German cars in 200-300k mile range as long as you maintain them well. Many items are more age and driving condition related than pure number of miles. 500mile trip creates significantly less wear and tear than 50 10-mile trips or 100 5-mile trips.

2013 GLK350
Hey All,

Just had a request to post an update...

I'm at 60,000 and just completed my 3rd service...which still amazes me that I only need to service the car in 20k intervals. Awesome. The car has settled in quite nicely and I put MB 17" winters rims/ tires on last Oct (Pirelli Ice and Snow)...trust me, this has been one of the worst winters in western Canada and I feel extremely safe in the GLK. Example: Cold starts at -47 degrees in Moose Jaw, SK and similar all week.

One thing that keeps happening, people still regard Mercedes as a high profile brand so many of my clients still compliment my ride. It's a nice feeling so if you like getting compliments on your car...get the GLK.

So far so good.

Thanks.

What 17" rims are you running? Something OEM?

Does anyone know if this is a major concern and is it in specific years?I read a reliability report that said this is a problem in 3% of GLKs and if so isn't this the same 4matic used in most Mercedes so they are all prone ?Not wanting to drop $7k on a trany.

Say what? You sure they replaced tranny three times...this seems unreal. Yes there are a few tranny failures out there, but 3 on the same car in such short span of time? Perhaps there is another problem that causes the tranny to fail?

Agree with NYCGLK. I'd look at the diffs or a bad CV joint that is causing the transfer box to have an inordinate amount of unequal loading. Possibly the flywheel housing was machined incorrectly and putting a bending moment on the tranny input shaft loading up the bearings. Hard to believe that 3 transmissions on your truck were all manufactured incorrectly. The vehicle may have undergone damage on the boat or an incident during uloading or transport. I know when they use to take cars off freighter with lifts, they occasionally dropped them. I had a Triumph spitfire that ate axle shaft u joins because it was dropped. I also had a VW that I think was in an accident while being driven from one dealer to mine before we bought it as new. At 20k it need new front left wheel bearing, 30k the stut bearing let go and at 80 k the paint on the left front fender turned from green to grey due to the clear coat generating millions of little cracks. VW said it was due to the car wash places, but only on the front left fender?
Anyway, it looks like there is another problem and the tranny is only a symptom.

As another data point, I'm at 47k miles and almost 5 years. I've had two issues: electronic tail hitch had to be adjusted (common issue with very early GLKs), and nav screen stopped working one day (just the screen). No other problems, no rattles, very good build quality, silver paint is great.

Update on MY2010 GLK 350 4Matic...owned for 5 years to date. 92k trouble free(almost) miles. I had one item go bad in 5 years..driver's side door lock. I purchased an oem door lock and diy'd it. Just changed the front rotors and pads(pads still had anothe 500 miles or so, left on them). Rears were done about 1.5 years ago. Last/This year I changed to a full winter wheel and tire package..best decision ever. The Scorpions are useless in the snow when that have some wear on them.

[GLK350 2010]

END of JANUARY 2015 @ 46K MILES.
I'm new to the forum and never owned a Benz before. I'm buying a used GLK for 21,500 USD. it is approximately @46,000 miles, the last time it was serviced was @43,000 (according to the previous owner). this is my first Benz, I'm looking forward it lasting me a while and ill do my best to maintain this car. any tips advises? i drive to work every day, i drive about 4,000 miles a month. I'm thinking about doing oil changes every 15,000 miles. I will also be using Mobil 5W-40 FORMULA M. what do you guys think? any tips on getting it to last longer? my goal is to have the highest mileage GLK. ill update my my mileage and how much i spend on the car. stay tune guys and ill be looking forward to your guys responses.

MIDDLE of FEBRUARY 2015 @48K MILES.
I yelped the best reviewed Mercedes Benz Repair around my area atm and decides to take it to Powerhouse German Automotive[15195 Moran St Westminster, CA 92683] for Service A and buff out someone keyed my baby after some public appearances. (some jealous person... probably drives a ford or something). This is the first time I brought it to the mechanic under my possession even though I should've got it checked out before I purchased it off of craiglist.. haha I'm ashamed I'm also currently doing a Techron Fuel System Cleaner treatment, I wanted REDLINE S1 but couldn't find it in store, I'm going to order that on amazon along with a lot of other products that I'm bringing to [http://f3autodetailing.com/] @60K MILES, my friend works here.

@60K MILEAGE SERVICE
THE FIVE FLUIDS.
- ENGINE OIL CHANGE.
- TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH.
- COOLANT FLUSH.

I'll be selecting my own products to use on my benz on this service, I read a lot of good things about Royal Purple and decides to use most of their products for my fluids. The following products is what I'll be using on my benz until I find something better I suppose. Any comments about them ?
- Royal Purple 05540 SAE 5W-40 RP Series Oil - 5 Gallon Pail
- Royal Purple MAX ATF Synthetic Transmission Fluid Oil 12 Qt. 01320
- Mann Filter (CUK 29 005) Carbon Activated Cabin Air Filter

NYCGLK, My Nav screen goes on vacation once or twice a year. Everything works, the screen just does not come on, stays black, not even the MB stat-up. I can use the screen between the Speedo and Tach to see radio and stuff just not program the the NAV or see the map. Turn off the truck, wait for 10 minutes and everything is good. Of course the one time it did it when I was near the dealer, it was after 6 and the mechanics had gone home.
I think I have traced it down to the screen's boot-up. If you power it down for less than 10 minutes it will not restart, but 10 or more and I think the power is out of all the capacitors and electronics so it does a fresh reboot and, voila, it works. Since it only happens once or twice a year and I know how to fix it, I live with it.
Did your screen come back?

I have a 2014 GLK 350. Bought it new. So far no problems. I HATE the electronic throttle (first one I ever had), do not like the electric steering at all and the automatic transmission does "stupid" stuff now and then. I'm sure that's related to the electronic throttle and the "learning" process of the driver's driving style. I think the root of those problems is that it "learns" your driving style - or more accurately TRIES to learn your driving style. Hard to comprehend something more stupid and annoying. I suspect, like 100% of people, my driving style depends on the time of the day, the month of the year, my mood, the music I'm listening to (or not), the traffic conditions, what profile tires I have mounted etc. etc. etc. etc. All I want is a vehicle that responds in a consistent manner. I'll adjust to all other variables, thank you very much...

I really want to LOVE my GLK but it's very hard some times (and that probably applies to most "modern" cars.)

Vent over... for the moment.... and sorry for going off-topic.

To give another update:
I'm at 63k miles getting close to 7 years. No issues. I just do my own oil changes ($70 a year) now and just did new plugs ($50). Still original pads and rotors. Car is rock solid.
Two minor issues:
-Front dif has some oil seepage/sweating, which I just wipe off during oil change. Not enough to even drip on the floor.
-I feel like idling is a bit rougher when cold. My wife can't tell, but I feel like there is just slightly more vibration in the steering wheel. When car is warm it's not there.

I'm over 98,000 miles on my '10 GLK350 4Matic and I've had no trouble at all. I follow service fairly closely with oil changes every 10,000 miles with recommended oils. I use the Mobil 1 0-40 Euro Formula but the Bevo-Mercedes list has many others. I drive up and down California every month. Lots of freeway miles. My overall average is a little over 21 mpg

Another '10 owner chiming in !
I bought my GLK a year ago and wanted to say that it's been extremely reliable so far. Previous owner (close family member) kept all the dealership work bills so I went through ALL of them and suprisingly nothing serious broke in 97,000KM, regular maintenance for the most part.
I'm now at 112,000KM and just did my maintenance work except a complete tranny flush. Love the car, it has decent torque and ride quality is superb, it is really nice to drive during winter.

Yeah same thing for me, vibrations were minor at idle / when coming to a stop when I bought it but now it has gotten way worse and it's really bothering me.
I changed the tranny mount last week and will change my 2 engine mounts this weekend. From what I've read they seem
to go bad around the 80-100k mark and it's highly recommended to change all 3 of them at the same time.
Apparently it's crazy how much of a difference they make, I will report back the results

2015 GLK 350
Can't decide

Hi Guys,

I own 2015 GLK 350 and I am the first owner of the car. Moved to Brooklyn NY, and seems like I don't really need a car that much due to public transit.
I am torn between selling it or keeping. Worried about the depreciation value of the car as time goes by. Friends say maintenance of the car is expensive too. What would you suggest?

Regarding maintenance ... the maintenance for my car has been simply routine. Nothing out of the ordinary. So far it has been pretty good at 47k miles.

Dead pool , depends where you work. If you can use public trans, why would you want a car? Rentals are cheap for the occasional use and you always have a new car. No cost of parking, moving for the snow days, maintenance, depreciation, insurance etc. If you need it to shop in NJ, or have kids to transport or establish a credit history, then that is different. City driving, especially NYC driving is about as hard on a car as you can get.

I have a 2010 GLK 350. White Chrome Wheels and still love the car. Great looking ride!

Just took it in for the 60,000 service today. New plugs, oil etc...$700.00. They just called and said the engine mounts are going bad $2000.00, The Differential is starting to leak $4000.00 and the transfer case is leaking $1400.00.

So much for lasting 100,000 mile....not a happy camper!
