There always seems to be someone asking about adding LEDs so I thought I'd pass this on...

Perhaps if M-B had executed something like this properly, we would not have lost proper fog lights.

More EU regs killed the fogs

I believe it was a nanny EU study that said 3% of oncoming drivers object to "proper" halogen fog lights that got the LEDs installed instead. (Probably some jerk messed around with them who knows; 3% of folks object to anything.)

I can live with either solution but the LEDs on our '13 glk are more intense at night and are aimed such that they act as fog lights. We have the standard lighting package. I can see the deer in the woods about to cross the road at dusk/night so the LEDs are doing their job.

Beware anything done in the name of public health....

Being the second time you present this , I take my time to respond.

Glare from front fog (and other) lights is an issue in your part of the world as well, and has been a concern of the Department of Transportation/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, at least since 2001. From a NHTSA document, with regard to misuse of fog lamps:
"- The response by commenters to this question was unanimous: yes, please regulate them. NHTSA's authority to regulate their safety will have the consequence of having a common national standard for them. -"

There is a number of makes, in Europe, which are using the front fogs, featuring cornering lights function, or supporting it together with the curve illumination, like the ILS in our GLK. So the "jerk who messed around with front fog lights" of the GLK is obviously (another) "genius" at Mercedes-Benz.

At last, a little quiz for you: What do you think those small items are, left - and right on the lower part of the bumpers of the two MY 2013 SUVs: http://models.audiusa.com/q5 and http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...x/default.aspx?

Similar funny items are seen on their smaller-/bigger "brothers" and a variety of sedans over here as well.
