RUST PROTECTION

Hi guys, I didn't find such a thread on the forum. I am picking up my car tomorrow and it is my first MB. I heard that MB doesn't need additional rust protection on top of the factory galvanized body. On my Mazda I did Krown every year and I know that many people do it on different makes and models. Would you recommend doing Krown on 2010 GLK every year or there is no need at all? I see that almost everything under is covered with plastic but it is still possible to spray the body inside which is possible to do only when they drill the holes everywhere to reach behind the body panels. I am in love with GLK since it came out and want to keep it for decades.
Thank you.

Wow. I thought after-market rust protection was ancient history.

No need for rust protection....if dealer is trying to sell it...they should know better.

Maybe it is ancient, but the guys who do Rust Check or Krown once a year in 10 years doesn't have a single spot of rust on their cars. They use use domestic and japaneese cars. And I am looking at the same cars on the road - they have corrosion. So, I am asking you guys who use MB, is it special and doesn't need anything extra? Of course, if you are planning to replace the car in 3-5 years with new model, it doesn't matter.

dvg, I owned a 2000 ES300 and 2001 RX300, all the way till last year. Close to 200K on both of them. No rust protection. No rust anywhere. I also had a 2003 Mazda6 for 8 years and 110K. When I sold it Private in 2011, the guy thought it was a 2008 model. It was that clean.

But then I live in TX. So what can I say about Canada and their Salt roads

Oh no, he's not. Even more, they say, that there's no need for extra rust protection. But salesperson of MB said I can still do Krown for my own comfort and confidence.

When I was buying Mazda in 2010 dealer tried to sell rust protection and additional rust free warranty.

When I picked up my GLK, the sales guy said it's not needed. My buddy is a Mercedes technician and he said as well it's not needed.

I am in Ontario, Canada, so lots of salt...

No I have not and I don't like spending $135 a year for Krown, but it's worth with other makes, which rust if you don't do it.
Salesman didn't try to sell me any rust protection for MB, like it was with Mazda before. That's why I am asking about your experience using MB.
Thank you for telling about your Boston experience.
