You need to consider whether you 'might' retain car for long period.

Possibly the only REAL negative is the run flats. You get them with many other cars as well. My dealer has offered to swap them for conventional tires when the car arrives. I'm still weighing that one. All the other negatives mentioned are 'maybe's'.

What 'might' happen you can attach to any other car you purchase. The diesel engine will far outlast most gasoline engines. You have no concerns for ignition problems as you do for gas engines and maintenance (plugs and wires,) in the long term will equal any costs you 'might' have relative to the adblue.. If you drive 15K miles or so annually, you're far better off with the diesel both in fuel savings and long term cost of maintenance.

I look at it like the mpg is a bonus. The GLK250 has 4matic standard, thus making it $500 LESS than a 4matic equipped gasser plus you get the huge jump in mpg. Resale will likely be high with the 250 as well.

I like how Mercedes is bucking the trend and actually making a diesel model cheaper than the comparable gasser. Not so on the Jeep, Cruze etc

It's a brilliant move. But then to be fair to Jeep, VW, Audi, et al, their diesel engines have the same cylinder count as their gasoline models. What would the 3.0L diesel cost in the GLK given that it's a $4,000 option over the gasoline 3.5L V6 in the ML? I'm anxious to see how BMW will price the 2.0L diesel relative to the 2.0T 4-cyl and 3.0T I-6 gasoline engines.
