GLK Strut Replacement OEM vs. Aftermarket?

Fellow GLK owners,

I've got a 2011 (June 2010) GLK350. I've put 75k miles on it and had my front brakes serviced recently. After the brake job, I noticed a significant difference in my ride quality. The shop says the strut was weak enough to where the vehicle going up on the lift resulted in killing the strut.

No oil is leaking, but a noise is made on speed bumps and it is definitely felt when driving on the freeway.

My question is, should I replace with the OEM struts ($249+) or are there any aftermarket alternatives that I can go with that I won't regret due to ride quality, etc? (Monroe ~$70, Blisten HD?)

Also, do you think I need to take it to a MB independent shop for the job ($330+ labor) or can I take it elsewhere?

Let me know your opinion.

Thanks!

A gaggle of MB's
The b*tch here is the labor - online the part is $250 parts.com - you replace one strut with non-OE you might open up a whole can of worms... I don't like your shop's explanation here at all, but that's me..

That's the best reason I got so far. Before they were saying how there was no correlation, just happened by chance.

They are offering to do the $149 alignment included in the labor quote above.

Don't waste your money on a GLK alignment not done by a MB dealer - you will get headaches and the shop will point to their machine and say - "see, it's to spec"... you should put those guys way behind you.. and get a 2nd opinion... they might have fracked you up..

What is so different about the alignment from the dealer vs. aftermarket, especially for the 2WD versions?
