2007 C280 4Matic - Iridium Silver
New GLK?

Hello - I currently own a 2007 C280 4Matic that has approximately 65,000 miles on it and am looking to possibly trade it in for a new 2013 GLK. Has anyone else made the switch from a C Class to the GLK? If so, have you been happy with the switch?

In addition, has anyone used the USAA Car Buying Service? I'd be interested in hearing both positive and negative experiences using this service. Thank you....

I didn't exactly switch from a C to a GLK but I do own both and came from an '05 ML500 to the GLK and I'm very happy so far, no the GLK can't tow or haul as much as my ML but it still moves around a lot of stuff but more importantly to me I really enjoy the ride/handling of the smaller GLK and the fuel economy improvement is a plus too. Compared to my C, most times the GLK is the vehicle of choice to get things done and the C is there only to put a smile on my face lol

I'd go for it

Have some questions comparing the C and GLK
- do you feel safer when driving the GLK over the C?
- does driving the GLK feel much different to the C (getting into parking spaces, driving in city etc)

Since the GLK is 'based' on the C, I wonder if its just feels like a 'taller' C?

2022 GLC300 white, 2021 Taycan RWD silver
I traded a 2010 C300 4Matic for my GLK. The difference is night and day. Although I know that the new C has a more upgraded interior than mine did, the GLK seems even more high quality. The GLK ride is more solid. With the larger engine there is more power than I had in the C and the GLK has better fuel economy. The car is not as sporting but the ride is more comfortable in the GLK and there is greater utility in the GLK. The GLK is actually a few inches shorter than the C300 so it is easier to park.

C250w
I did the exact same thing Boylston trading my 2010 C300 for the 250 bluetec GLK and now after one month I haven't looked back. By the way fuel mileage gets better after the initial break-in period. Higher quality finish on the vehicle than my C300, smooth ride and pretty quiet for twin turbo diesel.

I can't say The GLK feels safer than the C, they both feel very secure and safe to me. I feel the GLK is easier to maneuver than the C, but then the C63 is almost 5" longer than a standard C so my GLK is almost 8" shorter than my C. I also have the multimedia package in the GLK so the camera helps a lot. To me the GLK has its own feel, not like a taller C.

I don't think you can go wrong with either vehicle, just depends on what your needs are. I'm very happy with both for totally different reasons

Thanks so much for the good feedback. By the way which dealer in NYC/NJ do you recommend for purchase and/or service?

I never owned a C yet but I'm so happy with my GLK and I'm sure you will never regret it. It's comfortable to drive and looks great. I hope this helps.

2013 GLK250BT
My switch was B200 to GLK250BT. It's a night - day difference.
While waiting for GLK to arrive (B200 was a trade in), I was given 2012 GLK350 to use.
Once I got GLK250BT... oh, what a difference (-2012 GLK350 owners - no hard feelings) but GLK250BT is quite different.
I have driven C class as well. I'd say comparable, although I prefer higher seating position in GLK and SUV feeling.

Sovereign MB (now MB of Brooklyn) was ok in sales and horrible in service, bought one vehicle through them and moved on. They have since changed owners so can't say it's still the same. Prestige MB, tried to buy from them twice and from Prestige Land Rover once but couldn't get past all the lying and attitude during the sales process. It seemed like they really didn't care weather I purchased or not and that some other person would be in right behind me to buy the car. MB Manhattan was excellent in sales and service and I purchased several vehicles from them before they moved to the new location, since the move the attitude seems to have changed for the worse. Rallye, I've heard good things from others but have had bad experience with them in service, namely the whole you didn't buy it from us deal.

Now my current recommendation is Mercedes of Massapequa, so far they have been great in bth sales and service, purchased both my current cars through them with Hank Woloz and he was great to deal with. IMHO they are worth the trip.

G350 Bluetec
Purchase Metro area

We had good luck with MB Danbury. No service yet, but did have a positive experience there with a previous MB model.

If you decide to buy from them, I would go right to the sales director (avoid a salesperson) after you get 2 or three bids from other dealers.

I'll put in a good word for Estate Motors in Goldens Bridge. No hassle with accepting invoice pricing through Truecar.

2014 CLS550 4Matic; 2010 E550, 2007 SL550
Howdy,
I traded a 2011 C300 4Matic for a 2013 GLK350. The primary reasons were C300 riding too low for deep snow and ice, plus the passenger seat geometry didn't work for my wife.

The turning circle and maneuverability are the same or better. Cross-visibility is better as you're sitting taller. Side visibility is a little less as the vehicle is taller, but the mirror are bigger so it works out.
Comfort is better. The GLK drives like a taller C300 (which is exactly what it is), but it doesn't feel big or tall. The rear seats are actually better, as the taller seats leave more legroom, and it's easier to get in and out.

The direct injected engine and Eco in the 2013 GLK actually gave me better economy that the C300, except for high-speed highway drives (engineering tricks can't fix aerodynamics). 70mph on the highway gives me 28-30mpg with the GLK, it gave 34-38ish in the C300.

Interior noise levels are about the same, as long as you keep the cargo/tonneau cover in the back closed. When it's open, you hear more road noise from the back.

I've never regretted the change. As much as I loved the C300, I've have not found myself wishing I hadn't traded for the GLK. It's big enough to be very flexible, small enough to be economical and fun to drive.
Brought home a Troy-Bilt snowblower in the back, went for a drive in the mountains that weekend.

Make sure you get the lighting package, the rest doesn't matter
