GLK plastic trim warping

Our GLK 350 has 19,000 miles on it and we park it primarily in the driveway- this means it gets a lot of heat from the Southern California sun. I noticed the plastic trim on the passenger side door at the base of the mirror (the side that gets direct sunlight) was beginning to warp. I pointed this out to the dealer and they responded that it was not the heat but some type of chemical that had warped the plastic, of course this was not covered by warranty! I have no idea what type of chemical it could be - neither did the dealer - and the same piece on the shaded side of the vehicle is in perfect shape. Anyone else ever seen this?

Why is it not covered by the warranty, if the car is still under warranty.

They claim it's an "outside influence" - some "Chemical" was applied to that one and only part of the car and caused it to warp...

i would take it to another dealer.

I had a problem once where the interior door panel made creaking noises, one dealer said it was normal, showed me other vehicles with the same problem, I told them that means that it is a problem and its probably a factory defect. took it to another dealer, but this time I mentioned I was a part of the online forums like this one...It got fixed at the dealer with 2 new replacement door panels and I got a brand new ML for 2 days...

dealers love good reputation and their sphincter will tighten up so much they can turn coal into diamonds if your angry and unsatisfied with their product with threats of letting the entire world know what kind of dealership they are. they have no proof you did or did not use a "chemical" product...to me it looks like a bad batch of plastic was used on that side of the mirror and maybe the other and it just so happened to warp with sunlight. but, as long as that baby is under warranty, they can go eat their words.

throw in the words: "Im going to check on MBWorld to see what everyone has to say about this and your dealership" :-)
