Quick Question: GLK 250 diesel

A friend of mine has ML diesel...probably 2008 or 2009. He has had issues with the diesel engine...that are rather hard to fix and costly (post-warranty).

Does the ML diesel from 2008-2009 share any technology with the GLK 250? I know that the engine is different, but I am asking about the diesel technology, e.g. turbos, common rail, etc.. I understand that this GLK 250 diesel has been around in Europe for the past 5-6 years?? How's the reliability/durability record? Or is this GLK250 engine a 2nd gen of that diesel??

Thanks,
Thai.

I dont know if GLK250 uses the same engine as the thread link below. But that threads scares the hell out of me.. many folks reporting "car loses complete power in the middle of the freeway"

however I think this thread mentions it was fixed, finger crossed

Diesel technology continues to grow in leaps & bounds in a very short span of time. The four cylinder turbo(s) diesel has been available in a variety of MB vehicles in the European market for long enough to have feedback on reliability. The GLK250 is available now with many 2013 models on the lots. I was surprised how many when I went through www.autotrader.com for new vehicles.

Diesel

It is way too early to tell how reliable this GLK 250 will be but I do not believe it has anything in similarity to the older ML engines as I know this engine has the biturbo.

I have had mine now for 4K and its been fantastic... very happy with my purchase.

2013 GLK250BT
Diesel Engine

I'd like to add that the Sprinter van will come with a de-tuned version of the 4-cylinder diesel engine for 2014. The E250BT may be on dealer lots soon, if not already. It's already a time-tested engine, just not in the USA, yet.

BTW, I get 36-37 mpg USA in my 32 mile commute to/from work easily in my GLK250BT, that's the best part about this engine.

After the injector debacle in Europe which caused cars to loose complete power in the middle of the freeway in 2009 - 2010. google "om651 problems". I'm hoping MB went though this engine with a fine tooth comb and fixed all the flaws. Which begs the question, how could they have released it in 2009 in the first place?
