Hey all, just took delivery of a CPO 2013 (my first Mercedes) and noticed that while the wheel bolts are an odd design, there really is no wheel lock of any sort. Do any of you have wheel locks on your GLK? I have the 20" rims and they seem a bit tempting looking to me for a thief. I originally thought the patterned bolts were a theft deterrant, but they come off with a regular wrench set, so no theft protection there....

Yes, a standard 17mm socket fits the lug bolts. I bought a set off ebay for less than $30 (chrome). They fit perfect and look good, as well.

It was the very first thing I changed when I got home with my GLK. (I bought the locks in advance.)

Considering the cost of the 20" rims and tires, I don't think I could sleep at night without the wheel locks.

The ones I bought from this site are MB and the bolt heads are round with a six pointed star inside that requires the included adapter to remove. Of course if they're all the same with the same adapter there goes security except for the stupid thief.

I did end up ordering a set - sounds similar to what you mention (420tee). I just didn't feel right leaving my expensive wheels without some sort of guard - even if (as you mention) they probably all use the same key design...

Just purchased a 2014 GLK250 and ordered a set of MB wheel locks from the dealer. They come with only one key and the dealer claims they have no way to order extras even though the lug kit comes with the key code.

While it is rare, these things do break when tire dealers use their air wrenches and then there is no way I know of to remove the wheels. Does anyone know where these keys can be purchased? Yes I've looked at hundreds of pages on the web without success.

i have a set. the wheels aren't cheap nor are the tires.

sounds fishy to me. contact MB at their road assist number for more info. I think if you have the code and you have proof of ownership just like the ignition key replacement they have a match.

It would be absolutely stupid if there was no way to get a wheel off if the bolt broke.

I don't know for sure but it sure sounds as if the dealer is incompetent or can't be bothered. He's got your money, now get lost. Why would there be a key code if there is no way to use it? Ask the idiot that. Exactly why I haven't been back to mine in three years. I would ask the service manager.

I put wheel locks on my GLK as soon as I got the car. Seems to easy to still without wheel locks.

If the bolt breaks the lock comes off, no..?

rmfnla: it is not the bolt that breaks but the key inside the removal tool. Yes the thin bolts used by many American cars do break but not the monsters used by MB.

Tip to avoid the bolt breaking, even the junk on a Chevy: put a thin film of moly wheel bearing grease on the bolts before inserting them. The reason is that the bolts break on removal and not installation. With a completely clean bolt, the removal torque can be 100-200% higher than the tightening torque. The disadvantage of lubing the bolts is that they should be retorqued every couple thousand miles. Same tip for sparkplugs by the way.
