Have you tried starting it again to see if it comes back on? I am still waiting to hear back about mine. Have not heard anything since it went back Friday.

mlljohn58,

Has your dealer provided you a loaner vehicle? If so, what type?

Good luck and please provide us an update when your repairs are complete. I'd be very curious to hear what the dealer said the problem was, and what they specifically did to provide a remedy other than the usual "software update."

Best Regards,
Jim

Jim,
I was given a C250 to drive this time. The last two times I was given a nicer E class. I will update as soon as I know something. I know we are all concerned about this problem. I really like my vehicle and would be happy with it if I could trust that I would have no more problems. This is the third time and I wonder if getting a new one eliminate these problems. ML

Ok, this is what I am being told. There is a new update that came out on December 2nd. This is really all I have found out because the service manager has been out a few days and is supposed to call me tomorrow.

When the AdBlue warning indicator went out last night,I tried restarting it a few times after. The warning did not come back on.I started this morning and drove approx. 200kms to the dealership, the warning did not come back on.I have since driven the 200kms back and no warning indicator. The service manager told me it was a software glitch and has been repaired.he also mentioned this was the first GLK he has seen with this issue.I have not seen the official work order write up yet as it was late in the day.

A Second Software Release For The GLK250 AdBlue/CEL Problem?
mlljohn58,

Thanks for your update. Much appreciated. It'd be very helpful to folks experiencing this problem if you'd be able to confirm there's been a second software release to fix the AdBlue/CEL issue on the GLK250. I'm very curious to hear what your dealer's service department has to say on this and the specifics of your repair.

Merry Christmas,
Jim

Jim,
I spoke with the service manager today and he did confirm the fact that Mercedes has released a new update. He said Mercedes feels sure that the problem is now corrected. Of course, this is also what I was told last time. My car has not been returned as of yet. They asked yesterday if I would like for them to put another 200 miles of test driving on it, to which I replied, no. I am thinking that I will probably trade this vehicle. Will post as soon as I have any more information. ML

Second GLK250 Software Fix: Myth or Reality?
mlljohn58,

Thanks very much for your update. Hopefully the numerous folks monitoring this thread will ask their dealers to confirm the release of the alleged second software update for the ongoing AdBlue/CEL issue on the GLK250.

When you say "trade," what are your plans? To unload your near-new GLK250? MB take note....

Thanks,
Jim

My situation is being discussed with Mercedes and I am waiting to hear their decision and my options.

Interesting to hear of the Dec 2 update. I've probably put over 1000 miles since the second fix (first was caused by my request to install the update), and all seems well. Should I even bother with the Dec 2 update?

WOW! Because I have not heard back from my dealer, and do not know what is going on, I called another dealer's service department in my state. The person I spoke with told me that there is not a uniform software as such but on an as needed per car basis. I told him it was my understanding that Mercedes had sent out bulletins on this problem and that there was a second update sent last week. He still insisted there was no blanket update. He did say he had not had this problem in his service department so far. I am confused and don't know what is going on. He checked my vin number and told me he saw no update listed on it. I feel like I am in an alternate reality.

My dealer told me same thing. They or MBCanada apply update to new cars, but there is no recall on already delivered cars. Nor they automatically apply the update during services. That was a few weeks ago they told me that. They are a very small dealership and have had two Adblue instances.

By the way, a search on internet indicates that this problem has been around for a while on various models of diesel cars, not just Mercedes. VW, Audi, Peugeot, GM diesels and probably others.

We used to buy diesels because they were simple and trouble free!

cancelling my trip to the dealer
First, I wish you all luck in getting your issues solved. I am seeing through your posts how frustrating it must be dealing with this persistent problem and it's got me shying away from buying the GLK250. I don't have a MB but was researching the various sites to learn more about the Bluetec before pulling the trigger on my purchase this week. I'm glad I did.
I had arranged time and was really looking forward going to my dealer in Annapolis, MD Thursday for a test drive and for them to inspect my Porsche trade-in. But I'm going to cancel. Having several diesels over the years (TDIs, GM) made me a big fan of them and seeing that MB had one in a sweet luxury compact SUV had me sold on one. BUT,I don't want to potentially get stuck with this issue. You all have a great car but I do hope MB comes up with an effective, easy resolution.
Maybe if they've corrected this problem and I haven't found a suitable replacement vehicle, I'll get next years model. CHEERS!

We have 3,000 km on our 2014 GLK250 and it has been 100% perfect so far. Not even any oil consumption to speak of, let-alone adblue issues.

My dealer offered to install my block heater, but when I got there, they said they would at same time be doing an update on the CDI Module. This would not normally be done, but because I had expressed concerns through customer relations, they instructed dealer to do it.

From what I can gather, the new software gives the system more time to complete it's test. All that was apparently wrong with many cars, was that the Adblue test did not complete within the allowed time frame.

I hadn't had any problems in the low mileage I have driven so far.

Very sorry to hear that. After having the problem corrected on my vehicle, I'm actually relatively convinced that the issue has been addressed. I really do think that a new 250BT off the line would be a stable and great car. With a minor software update, and with the right know-how, things seem to resolve nicely. Think about the fact that the E250BT uses the same engine and same BT system as the GLK. No issues there, so it seems that the software was properly programmed and initialized for their emissions control system. As I don't think any of the GLK250BTs had any hardware issues (despite all the reports of sensors being replaced), software configuration seems to be the main issue. Hope you'll reconsider, I have already put 5000k+ miles on mine, and it's not even 2 months old yet. It's an absolute gem to drive.

Quote: Can't say enough about my dealership. MB of Rockville Center. Dropped the Car off at 10a, had it back and washed by 5p. It took them 3 machines to update all the computers in the car, and they topped off the adblue for good measure. The one Tech spent his entire day on my car to get it right.
So glad to hear. Ordered my GLK 250 from there yesterday and feel better knowing they were responsive to your issues.

If you do decide to circle back to Mercedes at some point, I'd recommend going to a different dealer.

Took delivery on my new GLK250 today. It has a couple of packages my other one did not, Multimedia and Lane Changing assist. I just hope it doesn't have the same issues my other one had. It has taken some negotiating but hopefully I can just move on with the new one. Has anyone else had anymore problems?

mlljohn58,

Congratulations! I sure hope you have better luck with this vehicle. What's the build date on your new GLK250?

Did MB take care of you in a fair and equitable manner?

In any event, glad to hear you got it all worked out. That wasn't fun for you...I'm certain of that!

Have a Merry Christmas,
Jim

Congrats on getting a new GLK250. There haven't been any Adblue problem posts lately. Hopefully MB have the problem licked.

If anyone does have an adBlue problem and has to leave their car with dealer, this might help a little (modifications welcomed):

Ill have an (ad)Blue christmas without you
Ill be so blue just thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green christmas tree
Wont be the same dear, if you're not here with me

Youll be doin all right, with your christmas of white,
But I'll have a blue, adBlue christmas

Apologies to Elvis.
