iPod and GLK?

I was told today by the sales rep that my new 2014 GLK350 can't play my ipod because I don't have the multimedia package.

Is there anyway around this? I really don't want to have to burn 600 songs on to CDs.

Please help.

Haven't used an iPod in a while (I'm an iPhone user) but assuming it relatively new and has Bluetooth you should be fine. Even standard stereo has Bluetooth audio streaming.

You do have to control tunes on device but you can still listen.

My GLK does have bluetooth but my iPod does not. What can I do? Is there a cord I can use to get around this?

A short USB connector to your iPod and a Bluetooth dongle would work. I did such a setup in one of my old cars.

I am so stupid when it comes to stuff like this. If you could explain in detail that would be swell. Wha do I get, where do I get it from, where do I plug it into my car and how does it work?

If this isn't your forte you'd be best served going to an auto radio shop.

Here's an example of one dongle. Google 'bluetooth audio dongle' and you'll come up with many.I have this one but didn't use it.

Amazon.com: Bluetooth Audio Dongle Transmitter: Computers & Accessories Amazon.com: Bluetooth Audio Dongle Transmitter: Computers & Accessories

The rest is buying the correct connectors. One with USB on one end and connection to iPod on the other. Hook your dongle into the USB end.

I bought a couple of dongles with different connections. Ended up wiring mine in permanently in my '85 M-B. Picture shows only the iPod connection. I just hook my iPod to it and fire it up. Radio picks it up on Bluetooth.

You might also have the audio shop check to see if your radio itself has a connection on the receiver itself for a direct connection. Mine had a wire with a mini plug end and it's not a high end receiver.

When you say autoshop do you mean a shop like "Autoparts" or "Autozone" something like that or do you mean like a body/repair shop?

Neither. There are many automotive shops that specialize in radios and other audio equipment for cars. Google or yellow pages in your area should point you there.

Speaking of ipods, I was using my gen 5 ipod on the ipod connector and it was working great for a week, but suddenly it had a hard time recognizing the device. I could see the track listing but couldn't play. I re-synchronized with itunes but no luck. It plays fine through itunes and with earbuds. An older ipod It seems to work OK in the car. Any ideas?

Try resetting the iPod. I think you depress both the - and on/off buttons together for 10 seconds. I had all kinds of problems, yours included, with mine, went to Apple and they couldn't figure it out. But the guy did the reset thing without telling me and when I tried it it worked. I called him and mentioned he had done that. Happened to me again, I reset and it's worked well for a couple of years. I hate Apple!!

USB Music

Andrew,

You can copy your music to a thumb drive and plug into your USB port from iTunes. I get some cover art to display, but not all of them. You can select random play or select specific tracks from the menu.
