Mystery hose goes to little pump at end of expansion tank

I asked the Canadian GLK 250 owners here on the board if they would please go look under their hoods and trace that hose from the thermoplastic connector to the other end. To date, no one has responded. Sigh!

It is now 2026. I just found this post as I am indeed trying to activate my jacket water heater (block heater) as it is -26 today and has been for a week. The Canadian Spec GLK's have a few extra parts and they are designated in the parts system with build code "460" I have yet to figure out what all is included in "460 builds" . The small coolant hose coming off the black plastic rad pipe joiner piece goes up to the output of a little water pump mounted onto the front of the expansion tank. The pumps suction is from a rubber, then steel line that disappears aft beside the engine on the passenger side near the body, under the air filter box. I have noticed that the little pump runs for a few minutes after shutting down the engine. Perhaps it is for turbo cooling post engine run?
Line in center is from main rad hose joiner/branch

pump's suction line can be seen running aft.
