Bringing back an old Stream. I just looked up in AllData, and MB suggests that the front brake pads wear at 4,000 km/mm and the rears at 6,000 km/mm. If the pads are 19.5 mm when new, and you must reduce this by 3mm for binder, and the min wear limit is 2mm ( wear indicator at 2.3mm) then usable to wear indicator should be 14.2 mm or 56800 Km (35,000 miles). I passed that without the indicator coming on but my disks are now undersize.
I am going to replace with Centric 125.35080 Hi Carbon disks and Centric 105.14060 ceramic pads for a 2010 GLK350AWD. These are the same front disks used on an E550. I like Akebono pads, but thought I might try the matched set of Centric's. Cost with shipping is $207 . If the dealer didn't put the front wheels on with a torqued out air wrench, should take about 1-1/2 hours. Dealer wanted $650.
Job completed using Centric's. A little hard to get the disks off but a big hammer works. Total job 1-1/2 hours including cleanup. After 7,000 miles still no squeak or dust. Will do the rears the same way when they need it.

In PA, the annual inspection requires the disk to be measured. At 45,000 miles I still had good front pad left, but the disks were wore below the lower limit. Never had this happen before so I had to change them to pass inspection (see 12-19 post above). Only the fronts.Even though you can see good pad, when the millage gets up there check those disks. Note now with 10,000 on the Centrics, great stopping and still no dust compare. The original rears are still blackening my wheels.

Let's get cleaned up a bit.... yes, the 2010 GLK350 rotor is the same fitting size as E550 up thru 2009... but for both cars (and for it's cousin the CLS) on the MB and on the owner side the GLK rotor is way different from E550/CLS..
Zimmerman is the OE rotor front and rear, and Pagid/Germany is the pad manufacturer.
Zimmerman rotors can be found internet like $80-front/$60 rear - and there are very good quiality choices from ATE (pronounced A-T-E) and Balo for example - or US made private label rotors zinc-plated/slotted/drilled whatever suits your fancy.
ON OE semi-metallic pads a bit harder to find Pagid front/rear, Textar owned by Pagid are not as "nice", great semi-metallics under Posi-Quiet brand... or upgrade to full metallic or even ceramic if that floats your boat,.

Anybody tried cross drilled rotors that they put on C/E class?

I changed the rear pads on my '10 4Matic last month when I had the wheels off to get refinished. Very easy. Set me back $80 or so. Took the calipers off, saw that the rotors were smooth and without much of a lip. Compressed the piston, put a little brake squeal compound on the backs and dropped in the new pads. It was before the sensor started getting ground up so I even reused that. Mercedes brakes are pretty easy.
