Command brightness at night

Has anyone figured out if there is a way to turn down the brightness of the Command screen at night? I have it set to auto day/night, but its still too bright for my tastes. My last vehicle's nav screen was synced to the dimmer for the dash, seems like a simple feature for a MB but I can't find it in the system options.

I have the same problem and have turned it off entirely (no music, no Nav) sometimes because it bugs me that much. Even the "night/auto" setting seems too bright for night vision protection. I hope Mercedes reads these forums.

Isn't there another choice for Brightness before the day/night/auto options? I am sure there is on my GLK250, although I did not test it. It was sort of a slider on which you could set the brightness.

You can turn the screen off and still have music/directions on. Don't remember the exact steps but it's definitely there. As far as brightness adjustment for Command screen, I don't think there is one.

yeah I'm chalkin' this up to another one of those features that should just be there. Every vehicle I've ever owned that has factory nav allows it to be turned down at night. As 107123210 mentioned, there is an option to set day/night but its still too bright at night. I'm sure its fine if you live in a city. We live out in the sticks where its really dark and no street lights. I don't see that well at night to begin with. Its distracting to have this glaring screen in your dash.

I really like our GLK but I find that for all the features they engineer into these vehicles, they miss some basic stuff that's available on your run of the mill Honda/Toyota/Hyundai etc.

You can easily turn down the brightness. System, settings, display, brightness. Go to that option, and you get a slider that you can adjust. Some people might be confused, thinking that "brightness" is a heading for the auto/day/night modes. It's actually an option that you can go into. It does look a little confusing. I turned it down a few notches, makes a big difference, though I don't mind it that bright either. Either way, hope this helps.

just tried it, it does turn it down. Thanks for the pointer. I'll be curious to see if I have to turn it back up tomorrow during the day or if that setting is just for night time.

Now if I could just figure out how get the Nav. to orient where forwards is always up instead of directional.

Appreciate the response, thanks again.

not sure what you mean but there is a setting where the north is always up or such that map rotates where your direction points up.
Poke around the menus there are not that many.

This is also somewhat hidden. In Navi, move your COMAND dial up to the top left, so that Navi is selected. You will see an arrow pointing down and to the right. Push down on the dial, and a menu will pop out. From there, you can go to Map Settings, and from there to map orientation. There are several settings that might be useful.

The day/night only changes black on white versus white on black text for the night.

Goto system, settings, display, brightness, then ajust the level you prefer with the comand controler.

Oh, ... Pg 38 in the instruction manual.

Have fun!

Thanks for info on how to change brightness. I find the display distracting when driving at default brightness.

yes thanks. would be nice if that feature were on the wand like every other vehicle on the planet instead of 3 layers deep in a menu. (not shooting the messenger, thanks again)
