Help: look under your A-pillar
Hi there!!! I will be taking delivery of a 2011 GLK in couple days.
It is a CPO but one thing I'm not certain is that when I pop the hood and look at the space at the beginning of the A-pillar (i.e., inside the hood opening, slightly in front of the side-mirrors) I noticed there are quite a bit of "gluey" stuff (I don't know how to describe, but it's like the welding points) there. Do you have the same?
Maybe I'm too paranoid, but thanks for help.

In the area where the "A" pillar meets the engine compartment there is a frame weld there. Confirmed that on mine just now.

It actually looks like as you say like Play-Doh with ripples in it. That is what a standard frame weld looks like. Hard to see on the car as it is painted the same color as the body.

They may have some Butyl (Dumdum) there to seal the area after welding. That stuff looks and feels like Play Doh but is a permanent sealant that flexes. Pretty standard procedure and spec's out fine. It looks a little heavier than mine but not alarming. Was there any work done in the area by a dealer or other shop?

Yo! mjhawkins2346. You must be an old timer remembering Dumdum. Now it a 3M flexible caulk product. Was looking for some on a 67 Mustang restoration the other day. The 3M stuff is tough to get off your hands.
The picture looks like you can get it thinned to run through a pressure gun. It use to be all over the place on cars. But that is just normal sealant.
