probably because some GLK models have a pocket compartment there as does mine...I see that in your photo, the pocket is covered with a carpeted panel.
heres the pocket I'm talking about:

2013 GLK 350 4Matic
It is too bad the liners only cover up to the rear seats. If I am hauling something I normally have to put the seats down, and having only half the floor covered isn't ideal. I would actually prefer no contours on the driver side because I have a subwoofer mounted there.

I'm thinking the difference may be if you have the HC audio system. I took a look at the online photos from weber motor cars in Edmonton and ones without the HK seem to have the tray on the passenger side where the HK model was carpet... Maybe if someone has a HK equiped one they will chime in as to which way theirs is (carpeted, Tray and whether US or Canadian model)

GLK250 BlueTec- 2014
I have a 2014 GLK250 with most all options including HK sound PLUS LEATHER SEATING
IT CAME WITH TRY .
Our Dealer gave us "all weather mats" plus carpets at delivery (which was nice) but I still B** about NO SPARE :P:P lol
The weirdest thing I forgot = is I didn't catch that the UPPER LINER = comes as that crappy BAIGE colour with rest of car as BLACK - so so disappointed the DEALER NOR MB ever questioned it (just to query if we missed it or was done on purpose)
I wasn't so sure of paying (lather option makes it a DEFINATE NEW FACTORY ORDER - which means it could take up to 4 mths to build!!) but when I car turned up and I saw the lather - was a bit disappointing as it wasn't like what we thought of (LIKE in that picture above which is for ML Series) Lather with different color stitching in ML series - on dash and windows etc = makes it a SUPER SWEET RIDE !!!

It is apparent from this thread that the cargo tray lip performs no useful function. Any water or dirt will run/fall into the low area.
There is a lower cost reversible flat cargo mat available from MB and perhaps Weathertech too. However, I bought a low cost roll of black rubber trunk liner at Canadian Tire and cut it out to fit the GLK cargo area. Saves the carpets a bit. Tends to move around, so perhaps the proper reversible mat would be better?
I could have made a full size liner, but what to do with excess when the seats are up? Perhaps have it in 2 pieces and keep front piece in garage for use when you need it?

hi 107* ....

and thought to post this suggestion(s)...
To stop that mat from moving ... you can do what I did =you can get a "Velcro Strip" (X Can Tire Store also) the ones with adhesive one side and attached it to bottom of that mat.
Helps us place things in specific location without them moving around in back on long trips. It wont work on very HEAVY TALL items - but we put those inside a "Cargo BOX" which we adhere to mat via VELCRO - so the box don't move!!!
Works !!
Our dealer threw in the ALL WEATHER MATS + MB CARGO TRY = we took that TRY OUT so as to make use of VELCRO strips.
** just thought to share this simple cheap tip **

I just had my wife check and we do have the tray, its covered by this carpeted cover. Sounds like they all come with the tray it's just strange that some have the cover but most don't... One of the many mysteries...

I have an American 2013 GLK350 4matic. Mine didn't come with a carpet cover for the right tray.
From my understanding, they all come with the tray regardless of what year, engine, or country sold. The difference is if they have that carpeted cover or not.

The two sided mat seems like a good idea for everyday use.
Mike - Velcro is a good idea for my home made mat.
My 2014 GLk250 (Dec 2013) does not have a cover over the passenger side storage tray.

Sorry, i forgot to mention...
My American 2013 GLK350 4matic has the Harmon Kardon speaker upgrade and I still only have the tray and no carpet cover on the right side.
I bought the GLK OEM plastic cargo mat from the dealer (20% off after negotiating with the parts department) and it covers up the right side like cpsseals' pictures.
