2014 GLK350
Question Approach lighting?

Can anyone tell me what the approach lighting should do? I purchased my 2014 GLK350 as a CPO, and there is no lighting that comes on as I approach the vehicle... or non that I can tell anyways.

Thanks for any info.

If I'm not mistaken, the approach lighting is the small lamps under the outside rearview mirrors. They illuminate the ground a bit.

They'll come on when you unlock the doors with the remote. Not sure how this works if you have keyless entry as I don't have this feature.

Hope this helps.

I have it on mine. LED lighting under the wing mirrors that lights up the ground when I hit the unlock button on the fob. I had to turn the feature on via the menu in the console. Its a nice feature but its pretty subtle. My wife's X3 does a better job in my opinion.

The lights on the undersides of the side mirrors are puddle lamps. The approach lighting includes the puddle lamps as well as the headlights and taillights. When you unlock the vehicle in the dark, they will all illuminate. The headlights and taillights light a path to your car and the puddle lamps illuminate puddles or anything else that may be next to your car.

You do need to unlock the vehicle; it won't sense on its own that you are approaching. Even with Keyless Go, it won't sense you until you grab the handle, at which point you've already fully approached and if there was a puddle, you've already stepped in it. Of course, having Keyless Go does not preclude you from using the remote to unlock the vehicle so if it's dark and you want to light up the area, use the remote from a distance.
