NO, it doesn't tie to a single car.
That's why sometime ago there is a group buy on these thing.
One person in the group buy the set then pass the cds around.

I was in the group that bought a set of updates. There is no write protection on the discs. They take approximately 90-120 minutes to update the maps. If you have a trickle charger it would be best to use it as the install will auto shutdown if your battery is not fully charged and able to handle the install time, it's like if you leave the radio on it will auto time out.

Just make sure you order the correct version as the discs are model and year specific.

 

would this group buy also work for the 2013 model years?
