CPO - When does warranty run out?

I just purchased a Certified Pre Owned 2014 GLK 350 a few weeks ago and am trying to figure out when the warranty runs out. It currently has approximately 16000 miles. The car was originally purchased new by the previous owner on July 31, 2014. I realize the original warranty is good for 5 yrs or 50000 miles, whichever comes first but how does the 1 year CPO warranty work into the mix. Does it just add an additional year so the warranty is now good for 50000 miles or 6 years whichever comes first, or are the miles increased also? I have read through the CPO paperwork we have but it seems somewhat ambiguous. Any help would be appreciated.

The New Car Warranty for MB is 4 years/50K miles. When that starts depends on when the car was "delivered" you can pull this information by contacting a MB dealer or MBUSA (even online chat works well for this). They will be able to give you the warranty start and end dates...

The CPO warranty factors into it by extending the base warranty by 1 year upon New Vehicle Warranty expiration. That expiration depends on either time or mileage. So if the car hits 50K miles 3 years into its warranty service the CPO extended warranty would kick in for 1 year at that point. So how far out the CPO warranty pushes depends on how far the New Vehicle Warranty goes.

Once the CPO kicks in it will only run out due to time and not mileage.

LogicalApex, Thanks for the quick reply. So just add a year of unlimited mileage warranty to the end of the original warranty and that's it. Seems pretty simple. I wished the CPO paperwork would have explained it that way. The paperwork did say the original delivery was on July 31, 2014, so I now know where I stand with that.

Thanks again.

A gaggle of MB's
Yes - there is a conundrum - becase MB does not necessarily know when you hit 50K miles on the original 4yr/50K..

This conundrum is worth more discussion with respective dealers.. I have seen it "expressed" as extending the new car warranty to full 5 years from in-service date - but YES it's not clear..

I believe you can also extend the warranty up to a total of 7 years as long as the base warranty has not expired

The easiest way to look at the CPO warranty is that it starts when the original warranty expires and covers the car for at least 12 months.

So whenever the original warranty expires, 4 years / 50,000 miles, then you will be covered for an additional 12 months.

If the vehicle was purchased without any original warranty, the CPO covers you for at least 12 months from the date of delivery to you the customer.

The CPO warranty can be extend for a further 2 years, although I believe the maximum warranty period cannot exceed 6 years iirc.

You mean it can't exceed 7 years.

Best case scenario (for warranty extension):

4 year new car warranty + 1 year "base" CPO + 2 year CPO purchased extension = 7 years max.

I mean that it cannot exceed 6 years total.... I think MBUSA state it in their paperwork about extending the warranty has limits depending on the in service date. I am not 100% sure but remember reading somewhere in their fine print that total car warranties cannot exceed 6 years.... i would like it to be 7 years as we are looking at a CPO with an in service date in 2014.

I am looking at the MB CPO extended warranty paperwork for my 2014 C300 I purchased last month. Car retail date is in Feb of 2014. The extended warranty expires Feb of 2021. 7 years total coverage.

I went by and talked to the dealer today as I had to pick up a second key they had ordered, and the salesman explained that the car stores a record of when it hits 50000 miles and knows the day it happens. So when you come in for maintenance, when it is attached to the computer, it can tell if it is still under warranty. No conundrum I guess. It does beg the question though of how does the car accurately know the correct date if it doesn't have GPS?
