Muffler not covered by warranty?

My dealer said one of the mufflers is broken. They accidentally ordered the part and offered it to me at cost... which is $900 + labor

If it were $50 I'd maybe consider it...

I'm surprised it's not covered though. It's the second surprise, after the windshield washer bottle (cracked... not covered). I don't know if this is normal for manufacturer not to cover exhaust but I'm pretty disappointed.

In Canada the base emissions warranty is only 2 years / 40,000 km (about 24,850 miles) with an extended for the cat converter and specific emmisions parts, ka-ching! 900 bucks, ouch...

How is it broken? It might be worthwhile to stop by a muffler shop as they may be able to weld and reinforce the break.

Formerjeepguy has a good point, however the shape of the muffler is very weird. There are some on eBay for as low as $185. Neither parts geek or Rockauto have them. The right side has a central section with it and is more expensive than the left one which seems to only have a resonator.

You could go with a custom system and probably save money. If you broke it because you hit something, it is possible that your collision insurance will pick up the cost above the deductible. I would expect that that is why it broke or cracked or whatever, and that should defray any installation or other costs above the deductible.

Not going to fix it. Only noticed because car makes brief harsh metal sound at about 2500rpm with moderate acceleration sometimes. Otherwise (normal driving) not noticeable. If it gets noticeably worse - will visit the muffler shop.

Well... this is a real-odd comment...." If it gets noticeably worse - will visit the muffler shop".

If it was me - I would want to find a auto exhaust shop who will give 2nd-look/diagnostic - since from what you describe - it is VERY POSSIBLE a little corrective work now could save you BIG MONEY not-so-far down the road.

Don't be a dope.. get it looked at by a competent local exhaust shop..
