Seat cover replacement

Seat cover replacement
Does anybody have any personal experience with replacing the seat cover on the drivers seat? I'm about to order the bottom cover. I've replaced covers before without an issue on other cars but I'm concerned about any issues i.e.: triggering the air bag light, creating a fault that will then require me to take it to the dealer to reset or other parts that should be ordered at the same time.
I also plan to replace that center scroll knob. Decided against the repair as illustrated in another thread for a new knob so I could get in and out quickly.
I would love any input from those that have replaced this part as well.
Thanks in advance.

Plutoe, thanks for the warning but I'm not certain what your experience was...maybe we have different models or they changed the design at some time. For reference our is a 2011.
It was a relatively easy job. Here is what I learned:
1. If you are just doing the bottom seat you don't need to remove the entire seat. If I would have know this it would saved me from disconnecting the battery and about 20min in labor. There are two torx screws at the front (underneath) that when you remove those it allows the bottom cushion to come right out.
2. Once the seat is out, I started with releasing the back first then the sides/front.
3. Once you release the edges you will need to release the clips that hold the seams in place against the cushion. I did this by pushing down on the copper seam rod (not certain what its called) and then pushing away from the 'hooked plastic" then out. Hard to describe and the pics don't show it well but really straight forward. There are two white ones in the back and maybe 8 to 10 blue ones.
My new seat cover didn't come with the copper rods that ran front-to-back so I reused the ones in the old cover.
Reverse the order to install. The last few inches of the longer part of the edge required a little coaxing but overall an easy job.
Completed cover had a little wrinkle towards the back that went away by the time I mounted it in the car.
Total time to remove and replace the cover was about an hour. Hopefully with the above information this will save somebody 20 minutes or so.

Very labor intensive and without the factory docs(WIS) you will be back and many times!!
Get a labor quote from an upholstery shop and buy the wife a pizza!!

Plutoe, Not certain I understand. I saw one post where it looks like the cover is replaceable w/o taking the seat out. I was thinking worst case: Disconnect power, remove the bolts holding the seat in, tilt the seat back, remove the bottom cushion then business as usual on replacing the cover. The cover part is easy...I've done it on several cars as I like all the cars looking fresh. Is th problem getting the cushion off? If so, what were the issues you ran into?

Out Of Control!!
We send stuff like that out, primarily because of time---however search the forum--a recent as December there was one gent who did not have the WIS docs(factory repair ) and spent days trying to figure the correct procedure--my customers would laugh at a quote---we stick to diagnostics and drive-train stuff!!

Apologize for the pics. After uploading them I realized they didn't have the level of detail to show what I was trying to get across. I'll try and photoshop them and upload a new set later if there is any interest. Again, this is one of the more straight forward fixes I've done.

Nice job. Dis some seats for a 67 Mustang a few years back and all of the seats seem to have those little rods. My driver seat has had 4 little cracks since about 20k miles, now at 91k miles. They haven't gotten any worse but I would like to replace the seat bottom. Any problem with the seat heaters?

Installed
Thank you Jroach,
I followed your instruction and installed the cover in an hour. It is much easier than I thought.
I got the cover from mercedesbenzstarparts.com for $240 shipping included. The part number for my car is 204-910-79-46-8P26 (beige). They have other colors and leather too.

Thank you for the instructions to replace the seat cover.
I need to do this soon for my 2011 GLK.
Question: Do this affect the heated seats functionality? or is the heating element a separate layer? Meaning do I need to buy a cover with heat element? or do I buy the one for 240$ (No leather. No heat)
Thanks.

As long as you order the right part number, the new seat cover comes with the heating element built in. Just unplug the old and plug in the new. Ours has heated black MBtex seats and I got the matching part for like $230.
Also, ordering online saved ~$200 versus ordering from my local dealer.

What web site did you use for the 2010 heated seat cover. I would like to replace my driver seat bottom, it is heated. I have a 2010 original heated seat. MBtex a sort of gray color how did you know the correct number?

I actually went into the dealer first and got a quote for the part. They provided the part number. I ended up ordering through 'genuinemercedesparts'.

This is what I found for Seat Cover MBTex black (220$):
https://www.mercedesbenzstarparts.co...bC12Ni1nYXM%3D
Part description:
PRODUCT DETAILS
Positions: Left, Right
Other Names: Seat Cover, Cover Front Seat Cus
Description:
Driver seat, without leather, black. Sedan, with c63, without leather without seat heater, black.
So this one says that do not have the heat element.
However, in the other front seat components, they list the cushion assembly with the heat element. (877$)
https://www.mercedesbenzstarparts.co...bC12Ni1nYXM%3D
So this was my confusion..
However, TPete and the OP say that they bought they bought the cover for 220$ and the heat still works.. so seems like the heat element is part of the cushion assembly.
Seems like this part should be ok then:
LOWER COVER - MERCEDES-BENZ (204-910-79-46-9D88) (Black)

Hey,
Thank you for posting the photos and instructions. I've been leery of taking on my replacement, but it looks do-able. Does your vehicle have heated seats and seat adjustment electronics? I'm assuming there is a cable or two to disconnect.
Thanks again.

How does one release the seat heater electrical connectors? I can't seem to disconnect the plugs for the heaters? I don't want to break them by accident.
i see the tabs on the top and assume there are tabs on he bottom as well. Just not sure how to disconnect it without breaking it.
thanks
